Colorado

Anybody going to the Chaffee County Fair? We hope to be there Thurs - have a friend with draft horses and she'll be there. Looks like this fair is bigger than our local one, so am looking forward to all the looking

That's the one in Salida right?

Been there in years past when I lived in the area. They always have a good showing. A nice Ag community that supports it real well.

I think I'll have to check that out if it's still going this weekend. I own some land near Alamosa county and sounds like the fair is half way between Denver and there, great excuse to go camping and hit up the fair

Thanks for letting us know about it.

It is.
It's about 3 hrs from Denver by way of 285. You have to take a left (if you're going south) at Poncha Springs onto Hwy 50. The Fair grounds are just off HWY 50 about a mile (?) I think, from the intersection, on your left, (north) just up the little incline. If you get to the Walmart you've passed it

Have fun out there! Love that country.

Oops soory - meant it is fun, don't know if it is still going on this weekend.

Is anyone here from the roaring fork valley? or more specifically Basalt? I live in old snowmass and my family has only 7 chickens now. The other 8 got snatched by a fox this spring. Is there a professional hatchery in colorado?

The closest hatchery of any size that I know about is in New Mexico..

My chickens came from there. Care of a feed store in Brighton.

It sounds like you are looking for more chickens? If yes and you can't do the minimum order usually required from most hatcheries, take a look at

They are one of a few places where you can get as few as 3 at a time I believe it is. If you want to buy a lot of them, you can look at the ideal hatchery, or any of the other big ones that aren't too far away.

Hope that helps, this isn't the easiest time of year to find babies unless you want to hatch eggs from someone here on BYC

Edited to add - I've never mail ordered chickens myself, but that's probably what you are looking at this time of year. I haven't seen any chicks in the feed stores in a couple months now unfortunately as I want to pick up 2 more myself. Anyways, good luck. If I wasn't concerned about roo's I'd personally get some eggs off BYC and hatch them myself

I live in Basalt...well more specifically Old Snowmass.

Im moving and I just got rid of 40 chickens, but I might be able to find a few....are you looking for layers? Sadly I just lost 8 last week to a coyote.

There is a hatchery in Colorado somewhere over near sterling . I think its called larry's poultry or something.

BUT if you just post in this thread there are tons of Colorado people with chickens, I think someone was getting rid of some copper marans.

There are also a few hatcheries still shipping day old chicks right now. I think Hyrups is done for the year, but sustainable settings in Carbondale also sells some sometimes.
