Rootball, where in old snowmass do you live and are you sure that hyrups is done for the year? I'm personally looking for 2-5 Mille Fleur d'uccles, but my family is looking for a mix of cold weather friendly layers and broilers. Any ideas?

Warmfuzzies, we might be taking a quick camping trip and we might be able to possibly camp near you. Where are you exactly?

If you are looking for a non-specific, ready-made flock, you might keep an eye out on Craigslist, especially, or put a "Wanted" query on Freecycle.org.

As far as cold-weather breeds...

I started a Norwegian Jaerhon flock this year. A breeder who keeps them in Minnesota says they do very well in cold climate, laying a large white egg well into the winter after other breeds have quit. They are not a heavy "broiler" type, though, but lean/thrifty, more OEG-ish/slender. The youngsters are really impressing me so far. They are calm and personable and confident, not flighty at all. And I totally am in love with the look of them...their sleek lines and speckeley/cuckoo pattern and soft colors. A plus is that they can be sexed at birth.

I have several breeds and I love them all for different reasons, but these are my new favorite!

I live in the brown log house first house down valley from Watson Divide road(have the big barn on the other side of the road with all of the machinery and junk around it(School bus etc.)(its my grandfathers house)

But Im moving on Saturday to CA for a few years I spent the last 2 months re homing 48 chickens(LoL bad timing)

I gave 3 brahma hens and a brahma rooster to a guy Seth Saxon who is 2 houses down from windstar(tan log House with blue trim) he also has 6 EE hens. He is the director at the humane society at the ABC and loves to talk chickens so stop by and see him. I also Gave 16 EE pullets and a few brahmas to Caleb Edelman, the guy who Owns Ecos environmental. He still has 10 young brahma Cockerels that need to go.

If I were you I would try to find a hatchery that is shipping right now. Get your broilers and d'uccles and layers all through the mail, thats how I got my birds. most of the hatcheries want 15-25 chicks min, so it would help you fill out your order for the d'uccles.

To all of you talking about the Chaffee County Fair. Come on over and have fun. We do have a pretty good sized fair. And yes, the fair runs through Sunday. There are also rodeo events going on and admission to the fair itself is free this year. Whoever heard of free anything!! So don't miss it. And yes, I live in Chaffee County!!
