One of my naked necks, and a girl I believe is a Dom, do you agree wsmith? Her brother looks just like Abe, and she looks nothing like my BR or Cuckoo Maran.
Lookes like she is a Dom. does she have a small up-turned spike at the end of her comb? Her tail is a little above 45*, but that is typical of hatchery Doms. Abe's tail is slightly under 45*, so they're offspring should be closer to SOP. Looks like she and the NN get along well.
Dominiques aren't nearly as heavy as BR or Marans. BR hens have deeper bodies and are longer in the back too. clicked on the photo and saw a closeup. Yet, pretty sure she is a Dom.

Her beak still has some dark in it; that's part of the sex-link trait. Females at hatch have darker legs, darker beaks, and more defined head spots than the males.

So I found out something interesting. Valley Pets sells straight run chicks for $0.99. The owner told me that they were 'straight run males'. Now I have never heard of that term so I tried to tell him that straight run meant they are unsexed but he was sure they were male and he was also sure they are straight run..lol. He does not know the breed/s. he then went on to tell me a lengthy story about how the GI's coming back from Iraq like to buy them by the dozen and feed them to his giant lizard... To make a long story short, it would be interesting to find out what these "feeder chicks" are.
I've heard of that happening. The big hatcheries take the males that didn't sell, and sell them to zoos and re[tile keepers.

Huh. Seems like anyone with Araucanas/Ameraucanas and Faverolles could make the same cross, couldn't they? Has anyone here ever had Faverolles? Their description is of a chicken likely to be picked on by flockmates and I'm wondering whether that has been the experience of those who have had them. I get why the cross could be a good one, just curious whether their description of the Faverolle is consistent with others'.
I have 3 Faverolles hens. They do get picked on, a lot. In fact my 3 are in my bantam pen because they wouldn't integrate with the large fowl flock. I was afraid they were going to get killed. They are pretty birds and calm , but they lay really small eggs - pullet size and they don't lay very well. They make good pets, but not good layers.

I woke up to a nice surprise! The incubator is holding steady at 99.5!! NO variance! It is behaving differently then last night. The light flicks on for just 2 seconds or so then shuts off for a while. I think it just needed to warm up.

I need advice. i picked up two chicks to go with my one. They are one day older. My chick relentlessly attacks both of them. It won't stop. I believe she would kill them both! I trade them out of a Tupperware dish to keep them separate. Am I paranoid or is there a chance the two chicks will get killed?

There is a chance that you may lose chicks. Usually at that age, integration is rather seamless. What are the breeds? I have heard of people washing all 3 in the same soap and putting them together in a dark room so they wake up together.

Waking up together has been successful for me.
