My lady @ Berthoud Feed is going to order today (& from now on). You should give her a call. I live a block away. Just talked to her cause I was looking for Pullets and her contact listed them, BUT they consider Pullets 1 day old hen chicks

So looks like I'm gonna have to get chicks. Pullets are just not happening for me!

Well, a pullet is a female chicken that has not started to lay eggs yet, and then when they lay they become hens. I have some day-olds coming Tuesday most of which I will sell as started pullets when they are feathered out and do not require a heat lamp any longer, but am selling some the week they arrive as day-olds. I will have Barred Rocks, White Leghorns, Araucanas, and Buff Orpingtons, all pullet chicks. I am also getting a few Black Silkies but those are always straight run. The ones in the incubator I plan to keep most of what hatches (assuming I have a hatch, one never knows with shipped eggs), in my effort to start a broody flock designated for hatching eggs and raising the chicks, so the extra males will be available down the road when I know which are male. Depending on rate of growth and weather they may be ready to leave as started pullets by the time they are 4 weeks of age, certainly by 6 weeks. If you are interested feel free to PM me.

Thank you. I appreciate it. The lady said they'd be 4 to 6 week olds, but she must have gotten lost in translation.
I'm looking for Wyandotte bantams and Sebrights. She'll get them in "pullets". I'll just have to get some kind of brooder ready I guess. Maybe a large tupperware. I have an old cranky cat and I'll have to cat proof the brooder.

The cat may not be a problem. When I got my first chicks I had four cats who were all scared of the chicks, even the aggressive male cat. Better safe than sorry though. I've always hung my lamp from the ceiling and had a wire grate over the top of the box to keep the jumpers in. If you want a picture I can post one later.

I would like to see your pictures. Thank you.
I work at a Grand format printer, so I'll probably grab a small crate on my way home tonight.
What is that fine cat litter type of bedding material called? Or what should I used for bedding?

*Grumple* Stupid neighbor's dog. The neighbor' that lives behind us, their dog dug under their fence into our yard.

Luckily, we have a dog run against that fence, where their dog got stuck or we might have lost some chickens last night or this morning. The girlfriend went and talked to the wife today and was told she would keep the dogs in until her husband patched the hole tonight. Ten minutes later, the dog is in the dog run again. Plus, the dog is snapping at our dogs.

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking for a while, taking in everything I can before jumping in with questions.
I'm new to chickens and just got 2 Ameraucana chicks last weekend; I'm in love!

Here's my question: I have 2 frizzle cochin bantam chicks reserved at Elizabeth Country Corner, they come in February 15 - can I keep them in the same brooder as my Ameraucanas that will be almost 4 weeks by that time?
I debated posting this in the Raising Baby Chicks Forum, but you all seem plenty knowledgeable!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

Ps- I'm glad to see there are other Arvada chicken keepers! Yay!

i ended up with 2 blue silkies bantams, 1 dominique, 1 ancona, 1 cukoo maran, 1 welsummer, 1 easter egger, and 1 Mille Fleur d'Uccle Bantam :) pictures soon! they're under a red heat lamp and they look strange in the pictures from that thing. lol. I'm going to let them settle a bit then take them out to get a good shot of each

I would say that's a Bad Idea. The more the age difference the more likely bullying becomes.

Coloradogal may have more advice though. Her chicks all roam together and she has a setup for the small ones to escape the big ones. I just don't remember if she had a specific age where she let the small ones mix in or what. :/
