Woo hoo! Elbert has always fielded tough teams, that is great!
They have. There was a whole lot of..."rough play" that should have been called by the officials, who of course are "im-partial", but in our opinion their main scoring payer should have fouled out in the 2nd quarter, instead of the 4th quarter. Lots of bruises....... Our coach calmly "discussed" some of the calls with the officials, which of course got us even more fouls. Nothing like 5 against 8, but the girls won anyway!

Overall though it was an exciting game. Hannah made an inside shot with only .3 seconds on the clock to close out the 1st half, and another girl got a 3 point shot with only 9 econds left on the clock in the 2nd half. We won by 2 points. None of the Hanover fans had voices left after that nail biting game.

My goal is to have the breeding/brooding pens done except for the gates and netting (to cover the pens) by this afternoon...........

So early this morning Beth turns over in bed and asks if our oldest son told me about the tiny egg he found today... I said no, we got home and were still too ecited about the girls win in Basketball. I asked her what color it was. She said it was brown! FINALLY our only dominique holdout has started laying!

The neat thing about games like that is that even the players who only scored once made the difference in the game, how fun!

Our goal is to try and get the 7 remaining sheets of siding up before the wind and a couple of midday appointments. We are half sided. Not including the gable siding, but it looks more like a building now. In the best of all possible worlds, we will finish siding today, and maybe get the gable siding and sub-facia done tomorrow and the four full sheets of roof up. Weather will largely determine how far we get. We thought we would be out working by now, but it's still below freezing and the construction adhesive won't work until it's above.

Met with our insurance agent, who believes our insurance cost will actually decrease because we are now considered a farm instead of just a home. Bob is flabbergasted. He was convinced it was going to go up, and I had to keep assuring him if it did it would not be much and I would cover the difference. Secretly I was scared he was right and that it was going to be more than not much. Huge relief. Farm Bureau is the only company we have found that understands the difference between homes in town and homes out of town. Our former company wanted to charge us twice what we are paying because there is no fire station within a certain number of miles. When we contacted Farm Bureau, they asked how close the nearest home was, and determined there was no way a fire at our home could affect any other homes, and that made the difference.

Chicks are doing well. Had a few pasty butts to clean, I am convinced if I had made the time to start fermented chick crumble there would have been none, but just had too much to do on the construction project, at work, etc.

Eggs in the hatcher are beginning to pip but I'm having trouble keeping the humidity at or near 55%, had to open it three times - added two Rubbermaid containers of water, one at a time, them a washcloth which is inside both of them, absorbing and evaporating the water, so if one hatches it doesn't drown. Each issue affects hatch, so my optimism is waning, but we shall see. One of the whites had pipped on first check at 3:38, second white at 4:00 and that one looks like it might be starting to try and zip but the first one hasn't budged. No other pips. Today is day 21. Time will tell.

Pozees which incubator did you end up getting?

I have the same as Chick In The Burbs for incubation, the Farm Innovators 4200, and my hatcher is the GQF 1588. Hatcher was actually more expensive and that's okay. I am satisfied both hold temp well, humidity was fine in the GQF until I put the rubberized shelf liner in to stabilize hatching eggs, then it started dropping off. My fault, I should have checked with that addition in place before I put the eggs in. I put two small Rubbermaid containers in and have a washcloth draped into both, which has raised humidity to 58%. I thought about pulling the plug but for now the first pipper is making progress and I have three others pipped, the other white, the blue splash, and a lavender. The woman I got the eggs from said she keeps the hatcher between 55% and 60% so I think I'm okay for now.

Happy Spring! I know it's still February and snow may be on the way but we have chicks in the brooder and I'm ready for Spring. Yesterday we bought three chicks from Kiowa Country Corner and eleven from Elizabeth Country Corner. I had forgotten just how small chickens start out. Things seem to be working out and the little chicks act very happy.

I'm trying to post pictures but I've never used my phone for posting so we'll see if they work.

Does anyone else have Spring Fever?

Got three sheets of siding up before the howling wind shut us down for the day. Bummer. Worse, we were trying to hurry and are not especially happy with the three sheets we put up, but just keep saying the trim will cover it. It will, it just isn't the way we usually work, but we will live with it.

Adam7, or anyone with any knowledge of this, if the bottom board (cord?) of the roof trusses extends past the top plate, does it need to be trimmed flush before adding the soffit?

If your talking about the heel of the truss(the part that rests on top of the wall) no. It's supposed to be flush with the wall. Sometimes it's not and if that is the case just stick your soffit right over it. It will be fine.

Omg yes. My chicks are scheduled to be in at Elizabeth country corner on the 1st. It seems like the days are just crawling.. I also have an incubator full of eggs due on the 24th.

It doesn't help when we have nice sunny days like today either.
