I was actually picking up three of the BO for one of my friends. I picked up the other three for me The other BO and the araucanas. One of his didnt make it throught the night. We have no idea why. The three I have are all doing fine except for the one with pasty butt. I think we have that pretty much under controll though. I put some ACV in their water 1/2 tsp per quart and am giving her some olive oil orally and in her vent. Friday she just really looked like she wanted to poo and just couldnt. She would just strain and cheap loudly. Now she is passing poo with no problem. We named her constance for being constipated. LOL
I took my girls to pick out two more chicks today. They picked out a black australorp and a speckled sussex. So now we have 9 different breeds.
They are all getting along nicely and running around the brooder like kids on sugar. It sure is cute. My kids like to watch them drink. The chicks stand way up on their feet and put their heads way in the air to get the water down. They chicks sure do grow quickly. One of the aracaunas is quite a bit larger than the one with pasty butt. Just an observation. I will have 14 total if all make it, which at this point, i believe they will.

Last year I also added some molasses to the water when we started getting some pasty butt. It went away within two days. Might be worth a try.

Yeah, I have been putting ACV in the water as well, since day one, and had to clean a few more pasty butts last night. Glad Constance has improved. Sounds like you will have quite a variety!

Lost my smallest sebright little bit ago.

Aww, sorry.

You mentioned the molasses before, forgot all about that. Might start adding today. It wasn't much you added, right? Teaspoon per gallon or so?

So overnight the other white silkie that had been sitting just pipped all day, hatched, still waiting on the lavender that pipped yesterday, and really hoping more pip. I'll be setting up the brooder today, so when I move those hatched and dried I'll get pictures to post.

Chick, how are your babies doing?

They are all doing well, thanks! The two that were pasty are 90% and 100% cleared up and the chick with the yoke sac issue has absorbed all but this little bump. Kinda looks like an exaggerated belly button now. I am a little worried about the yoke chick, she just isn't growing like the others. She is getting her feathers in like them but is noticeably smaller than the rest. I can't tell if it is genetic, a side effect of prolonging her absorption of the yoke or failure to thrive. :/

I have the second of three brooders ready for the hatchery chicks I am getting in and he third brooder just needs the actual bin. DH has been clearing out extra junk from the garage and promised me one of the biggest bins we own. :)
