That's one of the reasons I started my Windy Ridge Dominiques facebook page. I had a couple of "friends" on Facebook that continued to make snide remarks about the chicken operation, and didn't like it when i referred to one's greenhouse business and "only flowers" or to the book another was writing as "only cooking" neither are currently "following" me on facebook, if you know what i mean. I decided that some folks either just didn't understand, or were "too intellectual" to appreciate what Beth and I were doing. So now I keep my chicken comments to the Windy Ridge page, and other stuff in my regular page. I figure if my "friends" know me and want to be part of the chicken experience, they will subscribe to the other page. Whats cool, is that nearly 1/4 of my facebook "friends" are following the other page as well.I know exactly what you mean by 'crazy chicken lady.' I haven't yet 'outed' myself to my facebook people yet since I don't have any chicks. I'm thinking a cute pic of little peepers will deter some of the negative comments when I do make the announcement. In the mean time, my status updates have dwindled to almost nothing because all I'm thinking about are CHICKS!!! AND OMG IT'S ALMOST TIME!!! But only a handful of my people know this is happening... Almost... almost....![]()
We had a discussion while at church Sunday.....A group of guys were talking about putting together a class on chicken raising, for whoever wanted to attend. They said they had someone from some co-op that would teach all of us all about chickens. After a few minutes, I asked if they were aware that about 5 families at church had some pretty good experience with chicken raising. I asked them why they needed to bring in a person to speak, when we had resources already here....... uh..Hmm..uh....That could work..........was the response. Too funny.
