Welcome to the Colorado thread!Hi All! I am new to BYC and new to raising chickens. I found this Colorado post very helpful and was so glad to find others in my area although it looks as though most are from the front range, I am located on the western slope on the outskirts of Carbondale. I purchased my first chicks last Sept. three of the cutest little fluffball silkies and all have been doing very well to my great suprise! I had anticipated that on my first attempt they would face certain death either from my lack of knowledge or the constant threat of predators (bulldogge puppy included.) I was hoping for all hens and as it turns out two of the three are roo's! I am hoping to get rid of one of the roosters for the time being and when I am able to get another hen or two I will also get rid of the other rooster. If anyone is interested I will give them away for free and might be able to deliver to certain areas. I will attempt to post pictures tonight. One of the roosters is a very handsome all white and the other roo is a black with lavendar. The black one is a noisy little bugger, he typically crows when I approach the coop. Hes not very loud but he sure tries. He is much more friendly and assertive than the white roo, he likes to be handled and is less afraid. The white one is tame although a bit shy. Please let me know if are intersted, they are approximately 5 months in age. Thanks to all for the helpful information!
Are Silkies really chickens.......?
