I would love to chat with chicken lovers in Black Forest. My neighbor hates me because of my rooster - just not feeling the love

but I really don't want to get rid of him (the rooster, the neighbor can go LOL) You would think that in this area people are used to crowing, and he is not even very loud.(the rooster is not loud, the neighbors is very loud and abusive) Ideas??

Borrow someone's crow-happy rooster for a few weeks and let the two have crowing battles. Then tell the neighbor if they keep complaining about the one you will pick up two more. Just a thought...

I am a little worried about Cornbread. I am the one who wrote awhile ago about having to cull an aggressive hen (white leghorn) who almost pecked Cornbread (buff orpington) to death. I came in and saved her little chicken life, but I had to get rid of our other chicken (red star) (to a very nice couple) because Nugget was now going after Cornbread. We are getting new chicks this week. It will be a couple to three months for the chicks to be large enough for me to slowly introduce Cornbread. Will she be okay alone until then? She is too injured and featherless to give her away (she will get pecked to death). She is to healthy to cull and still laying almost daily. Is it okay to keep a single hen for a couple months?

I kept a hen in quarantine for almost a month once and she was fine. I worried about her though.

Maybe give her a mirror like you would a chick and then interact with her as much as you can. And maybe a teddy bear to snuggle with at night.

Several folks have used fermented feed from the start. Some have sprinkled dry crumble or millet seed on top to get the chicks started on it but there is no reason I know of not to start them on it.

YAY! But, I think it was you, I've heard that it might be a bad idea to attempt fermenting the medicated feed?

Are you allowed to have roosters? If so, I say keep him. Often times barking dogs or fighting neighbors are way louder than chickens...at least that is how it is in our neighborhood.

She should be just fine. In fact, I bet you will be able to put her in with your other chicks more sooner than later because she is not super aggressive.
