Has anyone else had a really crazy weekend, or was it just me?

Starting with Friday, my grandma was in the hospital, and then my brother had to go to the hospital for an emergency gall bladder removal. Saturday mornings ng was the chicken swap in Denver. It went well, but it definitely made our Saturday a little more crazy than it needed to be because right afterward we had to rush home and get ready for my daughters birthday party. Ten 5 year olds making individual pizzas and decorating cupcakes.... What the heck was I thinking? We had two kids spend the night and immediately after they left it was time to get ready for the family birthday party. Because the hubby is totally awesome, I was able to leave to get some babies to keep my new silkies company and do a little grocery shopping for a last minute menu change. Got home and found family at the house an hour before they were expected because the hubby posted a bad time in the invite. Whoops. Oh well, that party went well anyway.

So here I was thinking the hellish weekend was over. I called and found out the Longmont murdochs got the shipment of chicks in and it included hamburgs, so I packed up my youngest after preschool and we headed out. I totally was not expecting the semi blizzard conditions I found when I got to longmont. Eh, snow isn't that bad, I mean we live in Colorado after all. I got all of my chicks, which went from 3 planned to 11 coming home. Then, I get a phone call from the school. My older daughter feels like crap and is running a fever... I'm more than an hour away in the middle of a snow storm, and all of our family is at least an hour away too. So my hubby got to go get her because he was closer than I was, and boy was that a fun drive home.

But... My flock is complete for this year. I have my hamburg(ers). :lau

I feel you. I am in the reserves and this weekend was CHAOS. The 'to do' list was so long I don't think I managed to sit down longer than ten minutes unless it was for a mandatory class. Add to that a sick DH, DS getting into Terrible Two Tantrums and trying to start up / run a business... And I found out they never clear out those binders at Big R. Guy called for chickens, I thought he was talking about my chicks but no, he was talking about the flyer from 6+ months ago when i was trying to give away two of my mutt roosters. He did end up buying two of my chicks but still... You would think they would clear things every once in a while. And that people might pay attention to dates...

I hope you didn't wash your car yesterday

On another note - Thank you all so much for helping me find some fertile eggs! I don't know where I'd be without you, but one thing for sure is there wouldn't be nearly as many chickens running around.

My weekend was crazy, too! And to top it all off... I had insomnia on the two nights a week I get to sleep in!! I'm thinking it must have been the busy weekend interrupting my sleep!

I got my first three chicks today!! Got them home and dunked their beaks then they promptly pooped and feel asleep! WHEW!! Tired chicks. I'll do a photo shoot in a little bit, give them some time to get their feathers in place before they have to face the camera!

You will want to get them off the newspaper. It can cause splay leg. Paper towels work well at this age.

Amen Sister! I also found that for me, hatching in the **** egg cartons do too if they can't move around very well. The little guy with the splay leg is now as normal as the others. :)
