Colorado

Well I am finished with this hatch and ended up with 10 chicks out of 15 eggs. Not to bad for a second timer! :)
I had blue and black marans eggs and 2 of the chicks are white. One has stripes. The rest are black and blue.
Has anyone ever had a white marans ?
Here are some pictures...

I've never had Marans so no idea about the whites, but this is a beautiful chick! Congrats on your hatch!

Wow....., I just heard from cackle and they are shipping me my chicks Wednesday . I am half panicked and half excited. I have 16 layers and decided to do meaties. 10 red broilers and 15 Cornish cross. And hopefully 5 Marans for eggs! My extended coop for the meaties isn't started yet and so now we finally get snow. I know I wanted to raise some chicks for meat but the reality is kicking in. Has anyone else had that feeling? Got a giant long box from Big R for the brooder, usually only use a wire dog kennel. Hope it will be large enough for a couple weeks. We have the pallets collected for a pallet coop. Should go up fairly easy if I can get the weather to cooperate. It will be 8x8x8 so I can stand in it to clean, and they will have access to a meadow to range. Oh my goodness how did March sneak up on me so fast.i still want to go into the Peyton post office to tell them it is ok to call me at 5 or as soon as they come in. They are so nice there.......breathe........

I'm really interested to hear about how you pallet coop goes. we started to try one and it was just too darn hard to pull the darn things apart where we needed to.

Does anybody around the Denver metro area own cochins or polish chickens and can sell me hatching eggs??

I don't know about eggs, but the Littleton Murdoch's just got a batch of black cochin chicks in TODAY!! SO CUTE! I got my own...

We got two light brahmas.... they're SOOO photogenic. :D

Here's our Speckled Sussex

This brings our flock to completion, 7 in total:
2 buff orpingtons
1 silver laced wyandotte
2 light brahmas
1 speckles sussex
1 black cochin

SOOO EXCITED!!

We didn't even get that far - I mentioned it as a possibility and Bob said pulling them apart was much harder than I thought it was LOL. I wonder if they can be cut apart with a sawzall?

I have seen a couple examples of coops built from whole pallets but they were nicer and bigger pallets than I've ever seen around here.
