Colorado

My flock get only FF and nothing else from conception to their last days of life. Well except treats and kitchen scraps. Back when I didn't have as many chickens. I was feeding 6 coffee cans of pellet food per day. Once I started FF it went down to 4 coffee cans (measured dry). So to me that's a significant savings. Now I buy my feed in 1000# bulk lay mash (not pelleted looks like sand). I'm fermenting 5 coffee cans of this to about 85 (I think it could be less but who knows) chickens & a few roosters. I have 4, 5 gallon buckets so they all get 5 days of brewing. The fifth bucket is my collander. I'll have to find my links again for you. Love my system and I do have to keep them inside the walkout basement in the winter but its only a hop skip and away from the coop.

When I went to Mexico in December for 2 weeks I came back to my chickens being raggidy & lots of feather lose. Ugh. It was pitiful because my chicken sitters didnt want to continue FF they thought it was too much work even though I had all 2 weeks worth of FF brewing and all they had to do was take one bucket out to the coop and feed. Instead they literally went out and bought hen scratch. ARGH. My poor babies werent laying eggs for 1.5 months. Back on FF for 2 weeks again all their feathers were back, shiny beautiful birds. Dumb chicken sitters.

Kitty, just post here when you're looking for hatching eggs. I don't know from personal experience, but from what I understand broody hens aren't picky about whose eggs they hatch.
Pichuris, what sort of feed setup do you use for feeding ff to so many?

Heres baby chick pictures!mostly meat birds.

I'm in Strasburg too and if you're willing I would love to come see your setup for your chickens and feed and everything.

HAHA!! This is what my dogs look like, too! One can sit and still see in the box, the other can only see if he stands. Eventually both dogs seem to lose interest and either lay down or wander off. It took a couple weeks but I think the dogs are finally getting used to these growing, cheeping machines!

No, broodies are NOT picky. I have read threads where bantams were used to hatch turkeys and a buff Orphington that was given about 15 Silkie eggs. Both of those were good hatches. The guy with the turkey eggs actually ended up with a bigger hatch than he expected. He split six eggs between three bantams hoping for 2-4 chicks. All six hatched.

Here's the link for my setup. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds/1500#post_9727751
Ignore the collanders I no longer use them. Now all I do is pour the 5 gallon bucket of FF in the top tote to drain. I use the back slosh to start a new bucket of FF. I've never used ACV.

Yeah that would be great. Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday are best for me.
