I get all my supplies from ReStore Habitat or thrift stores. You'll save a ton of $ if you get it second hand (used).

No idea on mealworms though. I am also interested in the process though. The chickens love those worms!

Dnetschke,

Which ReStore have you had the best luck at? I am trying to help my mom build a coop long distance (I'm in Seattle), and I keep raving about the Restores out here... but the last time we popped into the one in Ft. Collins, it was all furniture, and no building materials. (this was a couple of years ago).

Hi all...I have been offline for months
hmm.png
missed you guys tho! I just posted a question over in the injury forum, but thought I would throw it out over here too. I have a hen that has been limping for a couple days...I looked at her foot when it started and she had a small cut that I was keeping an eye on...when I looked today, he foot is pretty warm and 2 of her toes are purplish (not like brumble foot, but like circulation loss) she did not mind me touching her foot but was very unhappy when I touched up higher into the muscles...any ideas?

Thx <3

That doesn't sound very nice. I think a course of antibiotics is in order and warm soaks in an antiseptic bath as well. Rest and heat if needed, probiotics/yogurt and see if there is any improvement. That is where I would start anyway. ( I am not one to take a chicken to a vet.)
Double check but I think Duramycin-10 ( tetracycline hydrochloride soluble powder) is good for internal type infections.

I wondered about the antibiotics...I have no clue if there are even any chicken vets around lol (is that aweful? I dont think chickens need to see vets either) I am removing her from the flock today..maybe I will keep her inside where I can watch more closely. I give yogurt once a week or so but will do it daily with her in isolation. Thanks for the help <3

I would start with the soaks. Maybe.....,, the muscle is sore from whatever she did and the purple is bruising/ edema and her foot is warm from the local infection in the cut. That would be the best scenario. Let's just hope!

Quote: X2. Also, if it is getting worse, you may want to bring her to a more quiet area, with extra clean bedding. We use Furazon (sp) on our horses, it comes in a salve and a powder, not sure if you can use it on a chicken, but since she isn't getting any better on her own, it might be worth a try. It is very inexpensive to buy, Big R has it, as do some feed stores.
