Colorado

Hello fellow Coloradans! I am new to BYC, although I have been stalking it for weeks in anticipation of getting chicks. I was still a few weeks away from being ready, but hubby jumped the gun at Big R yesterday and saw 4 little chicks on sale he couldn't resist. So we rushed to set up out brooder and are still working on our coop and run.
Now for my questions! I live in the springs and am having a lot of trouble finding good stores for chicken supplies. I think Big R is useless, as they never have the feed I need and are so expensive. So, does anyone know of a real feed store in my area that would have a big feed selection as well as grain selection? I need unprocessed wheat, as well as barley an oats and can't find them for the life of me!
Also, does anyone know of anyplace close to get unpasteurized apple cider vinegar?
Also, most cost effective place to get hardware cloth for the run?
Any advice or help in pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated!!

Hello and welcome! I think Big is very resonable on feed, etc. There is a feed store on Austin Bluffs and Barns (I think). There used to be some Circle K stores in town, one on Union and the other on the west side. Not sure if they are still in business or not, as it has been a few years since I went to them. There is also a great feed store in Falcon, Barttlets, is on the way to Walmart off of Hwy 24. Very nice people and quality hay and straw, etc.

Oh maybe I'm just too new to this then! I had looked up prices online from Tracyor Supply and they were much cheaper than Big R, but there not in town here. I've basically been going off of "word of mouth" and when other people would tell me they were too costly! Oops!! Thank you for the info! I will try to find Bartletts!

Could be feed costs are going up, up and up some more. Big R buys by the train load, so to me, they are very resonably priced on feed, could be just me though. Their prices are more than last year, but so is everyone else. TS also buys in HUGE bulk, so would think they would have some great buys on feed too. If you don't mind the drive.

I agree with Wendell, as usual, on painting the floor. Another reason is because it fills in spaces where lice and mites can live. On that note, paint the whole thing while you're at it! I don't have the luxury of painting so twice a year the entire 'coop' is disassembled, power washed, bleached, and power wadshed again piece by piece. Save yourself the trouble. The coop looks nice and square so far, BTW

Hi from Franktown and

I know the republic of Boulder all to well. Hopefully the house we used to rent on 57th and Jay has been razed by now.
Republic of Boulder lol! Something very...special...about a town that holds a candlelight vigil when an elk gets shot.

The hubby and I are renting a house right now that probably needs to be razed more than occupied lol!
