Yeah, I switched out the heated metal water tank for a little nipple water system (which I LOVE) after the last snowstorm when I thought spring was surely here. Too bad that the nipples are known to freeze in the cold! Means I get a frigid wakeup tomorrow morning taking fresh/not-ice water out to the girls before I head to work. BRRR!

Hi from Longmont! I've been on the site for a couple weeks but just found this thread. I'm raising chicks for the first time. I have Nugget, a 2 week old Barred Rock and Patty, a 2.5 week old Red Star. They are so fun!

Welcome!! I grew up in Longmont, now live in Denver proper. How many birds does Longmont allow? Do they have the standard restrictions on chickens or something special? I ask because my sister is moving back to Longmont in the next few years and I hope to convince her she needs chickens!

The wind has definately arrived. I clocked a 62 mph gust so far on the wind speed meter. There is so much dust blowing around at this point that the visability is don to about 1/2 mile. Its really nasty. so much for the nice new soil that I put in the one raised bed so far. I sure am glad I have the 8 week old chicks locked up in the shed. I had to break out the flat panel heater and put it out with them on the thremocube. That should be enough to keep them warm. The big girls are all snug in their coop and ready to ride out the storm. I hope every body on the thread has tied everything down or it may end up in New Mexico or beyond. Stay safe and keep your heads down.

A couple days behind d the other two..Lilly bell is the loud mouth and runner in this small flock, beta for sure..no way she lets me near her..Than the crowd favorite..Genevieve..our barred rock the curious lite devil keeps trying to escape the broader..Kindle again..

I got the MB from Skyline poultry but my luck left me with two rosters witch one is nice and big but does not have yellow legs and has a bit of white feather on tail, the other is getting bigger and it has the nice yellow legs and beak and not white on tail,I am keeping the two for now, my hen is white so is not good to breed her, that leaves my just with two nice roosters to look at and a nice hen who lays tons of eggs I get 5 eggs a week form her, she started in february her first week they were small but now are big 2.8 oz each and sometimes  2.5 but not less. But I 2 day ago I set 13 MBH eggs in the bator so I ma hoping for new Basques again.
The variety is for now, I decided to start with different breed and see what I like.

We had the same thought about variety, only problem can be deciding what to get rid of lol
Good luck on your hatch, I like what I've read about MBs.

Are you kidding me? Yesterday I was replacing a section of fence between the paddock and pasture. Of course the lumber yard shorted me 1 (yes one) post. By the time I got back it had dropped 25 degrees. That was 30 minutes later. Now there's a 12' hole in the fence that will stay that way until concrete will set again

That's my shirt hanging over the last rail because I was sweating. (Yes, I'm a dude.) Welcome to Colorado!
