ROFL..ya, one of my emply 55 gallon plastic barrels has gone missing...Someone several miles south of me just inherited it I think.

I have a 55 gallon plastic water barrel missing. Looks like someone is going to get two of them. Mine should be in pueblo by now. I am pretty sure it went down the creek.

to answer #3, at the feed store did their label say Araucanas or Araucanas/Ameraucana?

you can post your pictures on the breed threads maybe they can help but this thread might help too.

It said Araucanas.
I picked out one that looked the most different. She's very dark colored. Can't wait to see what she ends up looking like!

Hello, been a rough few months but thought I would drop in to say hi.

We just sold our house so in a few weeks I won't be chicken moma in Highlands Ranch. Now all I need is someone to put up a great house with at least 2 acres of land for a great price, up to 40 min from park meadows, and I will be all set to get more babies.

I guess I am a meanie..., mine went out into the coop when they were 4 weeks and had a light for a week. They have already "survived" twenty something temps and love to go outside in the morning when it is still cold and spaaz around like crazy chickens. Most chicks are just fine; you should see how a broody raises them!

Mine are out there at about 4 to 6 weeks old too. But I did cheat and turn on the heat lamp last night.

Are you kidding me? Yesterday I was replacing a section of fence between the paddock and pasture. Of course the lumber yard shorted me 1 (yes one) post. By the time I got back it had dropped 25 degrees. That was 30 minutes later. Now there's a 12' hole in the fence that will stay that way until concrete will set again

That's my shirt hanging over the last rail because I was sweating. (Yes, I'm a dude.) Welcome to Colorado!

What Wendell said... trees!

I hear so many conflicting things about turkey hardiness. On the one hand I'd expect more hardiness from heritage breeds, but I've also read that they still seem to look for ways to die. Ours have gotten attached to one of our two goslings for some reason, they all pile up on it.

The 2 turkeys that i kept from the turkey order are doing fine. My brother has lost one already. My brother doesn't believe turkeys, in general, are very hardy. But he loves them for other reasons like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Nice to hear from you!

Thanks, I missed this site. My dad got sick again and even though he will be okay I just had to take some time.

I can't wait to see there reaction to actual land, they are use to this little yard. If I can plop them down on a 5 acre lot they might get lost trying to find a fence to hop over, or go under.

How did he lose one?
For what it's worth, my wife feels that the poults and goslings are calmer and cleaner than the chicks. The water needs cleaning out much less frequently. And as anyone who has had chicks/chickens knows, they fixate on anything that looks out of place and if that object of interest is on another chick they'll peck it bloody, which just increases their fixation. Not so with the goslings and poults (at least ours, so far). Too bad they don't lay year-round or we might be rethinking our poultry plans.

What happened to the turkey? I already posted this on the Colorado Chickens FB page but we had a near disaster today...Hannah called me in tears this morning. The wind had damaged one of the gates, which was in turn damaging the fence. She went out to fix it and in the process, somehow the poults' heat lamp got unplugged. She checked on them and found a couple were listless, and the others were huddled in a corner. She plugged the heat back in and called me. She got the poults in a box and took them in the house. After about an hour all was fine, and back to normal.

One of the poults has a few "sores" where it looks like it has been pecked repeatedly.
