I am so excited.

My first black mottled cochin hatched last night. I've been waiting a long time for my cochins to produce. Maybe things are looking up if Miss Daisy will lay some more eggs. My husband thinks I'm insane to be this excited about one little chick.

Woo hoo!!! Congrats!

Chicken coop update! It's getting there. I have full grown chickens living part time in my garage still. The plywood on the roof somehow ended up crooked so we have to take it down and figure that out. Oops.

And a chicken photo bomb!

Grrr!!!!

Last Saturday I spent several hours roto-tilling the back yard getting ready for ChickenFest. Friday I tilled. This morning I tilled. This afternoon I started tilling and was almost finished and I threw a rod in the Roto-tiller engine and cracked the block. NOT happy.

The girls are in the coop now!

And brave Lucy (EE) is checking out the low roosting bar. (This is only about 1 foot off the ground and this is for our JG's, based on feedback on BYC). We have another roosting bar on the other side of the coop that is about 4 feet that hopefully will work for the other girls. Question: Do we need to provide a ladder for the higher roosting bar or will they be able to get up there on their own? Can they get down safely? Newbie questions for sure! Ha Ha.

Ohhh, nooo ... so sorry.

monteverde, thought of a couple other shrubs/small trees you can try - New Mexico Privet and almost any of the Sumacs. Also have lilacs, but they do need water periodically. You best success will be with good sized potted plants, but of course that necessitates a bigger hole.

Wendell, look up a book on line called, One Minute Garden, no digging needed. Saves so much time, is the only way I garden now...... Here is a link, but I am still looking for the book that got me started. http://www.no-dig-gardening.org/no-dig-gardening-guide
