I was wondering about water leaking through the holes! The rubber washers sounds great. I was thinking about pre-drilling as well but everything I've read about these panels say you have to be SUPER careful not to crack them while drilling. So there are suggestions to tape the area you're drilling through, special drill bits.... tons of suggestions and I'm trying to figure out how much of this I need to be worried about!

They are called roofing screws and you can get scalloped shaped pieces of wood or other material (foam ?) that fits in the groves of the panels and that really helps support the panel during drilling and also plugs up holes.

Yep, I used those shaped pieces of wood under mine. They're expensive, though
If you want to be extra careful and have the money I'd use them.

I had no problem with cracking at all. Wasn't really all that careful either. But pre-drilling is probably a good idea.

Ok, thanks guys! I'm thinking just get some good support for the drilling phase, but don't need to tape the plastic or buy special drill bits. I can do that!

Wendell, Congrats on the developing eggs! Should be a great hatch!

Snow day here too! YAY! Four or five inches, and the sun is already out, so is starting to melt. Looking forward to some grass finally growing.

I just drilled when I used the plastic panels, very carefully though......

Sadly some of the chicks don't make it. I would limit who gets to hold them until they are older, if you just got them yesterday, they are probably around three days old, and they are fragile at this age. Sometimes little kids can get excited, and accidents happen!

Who was it that had the Silver Sebright male? I just saw a Wanted ad here on BYC from someone looking for one, you might check the Buy Sell Trade - his ad title is something like Roosters Wanted (I know, pretty shocking huh?)

I checked the Buy, Sell, Trade for the Sebright rooster post, but I didn't find it.

Here's an updated pic of my girls... since the coop isn't done yet, I added a condo on to their brooder (not pictured).

They like it quite a bit and spend a lot of time in there.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting this pic is because the 'girl' in the front and the girl in the back (the white one) are both light brahmas. The front one is the suspected rooster and I took their dramatic difference in coloring to be an indicator of different genders. But I searched through pics for light brahma roos and all the pics seemed to show mostly white birds. Mine is mostly black/grey! Any thoughts?

I will bet that these kids have something in common they ate or were exposted to and I am betting it is not chickens. The news sure is one sided on these things.
