Ffor a first timer this is a pretty interesting thing to do. I have one pip and 3 rocking eggs now.

Sure wish I had a webcam so others could view this. Its pretty exciting. I just inched a wet towel in there, i am trying to get the bator up to 55% humidity. It is pretty stable at 48% at the moment, but want it to be correct to give them the best chance I can. lots of peeping going on in there, its driving my dog nuts trying to figure out where the peeping is coming from. Now I just need to get the brooder set up in the basement again. These chicks will be prizez for games at the chickenfest on the 18th. i wasnt expecting this until late Sundyay or Monday morning.

Hello!
I don't think I've posted for aver a year, I get so busy with hatching this time of year and then all the little brooder peeps need so much attention. Goes on for months and I love it but it takes so much time and energy.

I've been hatching ducks for a few years now and selling them on Craig's List and at the swaps.
Thought I should put in a post for the BYC folks too.

I have Welsh Harlequins, a few black Runners, and a few blue and white Magpies.
This year I also have some Sebastopol goslings, all white.
If anybody might be interested drop me a pm.

Are you, perhaps, a duck lover?

Do you have an insatiable desire for pekings outside of having them for dinner? Perhaps with a pond for them to do their duckly things?

I'd love to find a nice home for my two pekings. They are a bonded pair. I also have a little runner but she tends to fit well with the other hens.

Stealth Roosters

Puzzle me this, prior to Anakin getting into the coop area, I use to get an average of 22-24 eggs a day out of 46ish laying birds. Of the 46, I only knew of 3 that were roosters. Right after the flock attack, I was getting 16-18 and the last three days, I'm back up to around 20 eggs a day. I have no more birds just starting to lay but I always had suspicions on some of the birds being male because they had spurs.

Is it possible that I had a whole slew of stealth roosters? I noticed today that as one of my young roosters started to crow, my black beauty went and kicked him. They didn't fight or do the chest bump but it was a clear message to shut up and stop crowing. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Perhaps I just have an overly smart flock who know that the crowing, mean roos don't stay long.

I'm in the low 30s now of laying age birds so 20ish a day is about right.

Oh yes I am a duck lover!

That"s why I have so many!
And keep hatching MORE!!
I like the smaller breeds so I can fit more in!

I can't expand into the larger ones until I get a larger property and larger income to feed them all.
Hope you can find those babies a nice home.

I just received two Rouen ducklings with a Hatchery Surprise order - they are cute little buggers but I have no water for them anywhere on the property, so not even considering keeping them, but I wondered whether you have suggestions for how the average Coloradan can best provide water for them to swim in? The only things I've heard of so far are kiddie pools and troughs.

I don't have an edit option when I open the map.  Do I need a Google account to edit?

yup,  I cant  find and edit option either.  Now I really feel inadiquit.  Somone here will help us along I and sure.

I don;t see an edit option either, is there another way to open it??????

Okay you all,   See that sign in button on the top right?   You have to sign in to your google account or get one(pretty easy)  and then once you are signed in, the map will reload and the edit button will be a  red button on the left of the map.  Toodles!
I'm signed in and have no edit options, wondering if it is because I'm on my ipad instead of computer?

I don't have a pond either, I use kiddie pools and plastic bins and a large rubber waterer.
Ponds can be hard to keep clean if you have too many ducks.
I have hoses set up to help me syphon and drain the pools in the summer and use smaller containers I can bail out when the hoses are frozen.
Ducks are ok without swimming every day, they always need enough water to fully wash their heads in like a bucket.
But if the weather isn't cooperating they are ok without a daily bath.
