Colorado

Hey all!

I am new here, we are trying to start our small flock in highlands ranch. Preparing to submit our coop plans for approval. Anyone done this here before who knows how long the approval process is? Or pics of coops that were approved?
I would also love to know if there are some local breeders that I could purchase chicks from? Lots of questions and I am sure to have more. Thank in advance for any help you can offer!

I have some Salmon Faverolle chicks and will be putting some eggs in the incubator on Friday.
Do some research on this breed and see if they might fit into your plans.

We 'absolutely' want to do ChickenFest again! Because my work schedule dictated, I had to opt for the Fest instead of the Coop Tour. My only (selfish) thought would be to choose a weekend without another chicken conflict. Alan & I both learned so much at ChickenFest. Thanks to all who shared their patience and answered questions. I came home with great ideas, a few more wrinkles in my brain, a little more confidence with our birds...AND two REALLY cool pairs of chicken themed earrings!! Still sharing the crockpot window idea & photos with any and all willing to listen. The chicken processing lesson was well done. My biggest fear was that I would have to wrestle with my conscience whether I could 'do the deed'. The processing, as demostrated, was quick, humane...and dignified. So much of what we learned makes sense. Thanks for the fun and the education. I vote for 'yes' ChickenFest 2014....and appreciate having it as a local event.

Should we start a new thread? "Things in Colorado that aren't chooks" Maybe Margie has us beat with the bear already.

Wendy your garden and yard and plans are just incredible, I can't wait to hear how you do with your bees! We have gone back and forth on them for over a year now, and until we are confident we can provide enough sustenance for them will hold off, but some day ...

I love those pics guys. Few questions for anyone:

Does anyone else do rotating pasture for their chickens and/or other livestock? Do you do any irrigating on that land when pasturing has been complete?

Broody question: I have a broody sitting on 7 eggs candled today (day 14) and all appear good. I have delaware hatching eggs coming to me next week. Do you think I can get away with taking those from her before they hatch and give her the delaware eggs or do you think she would abandon the new batch after a week or so? I have another that just went broody 2 days ago and hoping that I can just put these eggs with broodies. I have another chicken that goes broody too but she isn't showing any signs. I hope its soon.
