Colorado

Ashdoes, they are sooo cute! They sure are great setters!!!

Pfunk, I was thinking when you first got your little ducklings that a great spot for them to nest would be under your laying boxes, board the side up and they have a nice place out of the way! Hope you can keep them! They lay big eggs which are good for baking, I am sure yours will be laying soon if not already.

Must be the black cloud I saw towards the east that caused the hail, scary stuff, especially for the critters! It just looks crazy dark in that direction!

Haha, thanks. They have plenty of water, but it's kept a relative distance from the food. They go back and forth - food, water, food, water, food, water - until they are one in the same. I used to empty the pool every day but now just turn the hose on 'till the film on top is gone. They do like it muddy. They are so messy the hose remains permanently attached just to spray off the floor in the barn... Are they supposed to have diarrhea all the time?
Yup, that is what their poo looks like all the time. When I had my ducks years ago, they nested next to the house under a tree, everyone hatched out fine, this was not in the winter, but late spring. They are not fussy at all!

Still only 2 silvers. But I'm not giving up yet. I've never had very good luck with shipped eggs. I only did this because I need a male. I have two silver hens that I got last summer and I need male to breed to them. Hopefully at least one of these is a male.

Hope you get few more, would increase your odds! Hope at least one is a boy! How many days have they been in the incubator? I have read some people leave them until day 23 and even day 24.

Holy Hail Batman!
Anyone else get that hail storm? Wow, was quite intense for a few minutes.
yup, I got it. My house was right under that black cloud. We got .62 inches of rain in about 15 or so minutes. Plenty of hail also. My swiss chard and spinach doesn't look so good now. Fountain creek came up about 15 inches but is on its way back down now. I was stuck on the interstate behind an accident while this all happened. When I got home I had water running across the driveway and down through the back yard. It looks like I need to do some more erosion control. Nothing quite like living with fountain creek running through your back yard. We sure do need the rain though. The garden should perk up in the next few days and thrive again.

I think it is only going to get worse with HOA's and their rules and regulations. I lived on 35 acres in northern El Paso County, and yes, we had a HOA start up, they changed many things, and not all of them were for the best.

Actually it is very hopeful that California is starting to promote it. Highlands Ranch allowing them will go a long way for other areas in Colorado too.

With all the heat we had recently I took a small pan out to the run and filled it with water. The girls sure seemed to like having a little standing water to help cool them off. The pan is 8x8in and I was thinking of getting something a bit bigger. Does anyone else do this or have suggestions for something similar?

Today is the beginning of day 22. I'm going to leave them be for a while, but my experience is if nothing is pipping after a long period of others hatching the odds are not so great.

I put a 36' x 24' plastic under-bed storage box in my run a couple weeks ago. I put about 2' of gravel in the bottom and added another couple of inches of water. My 3 girls LOVE it. They splash around and use it like a bird bath. It was the best $5 I've spent on entertainment in a very long time
