Oh my word! My friend who lives in Pinecliff just sent me her neighborhood newsletter. Apparently there is a lost Rooster roaming around.
Pinecliff is near I-25 and Garden of the Gods. Near the Sunbird Restaurant. anyone?? anyone??? I can't remember anyone in this forum that
lives near there...

LOST ROOSTER LIVING IN PINECLIFF:
jpeg

Pinecliff neighbors have reported seeing the rooster in this photo living behind homes off Point of the Pines Dr. He is a beautiful (& reportedly loud) domesticated rooster. His owners are no doubt looking for him. Please let us know if anyone can help him find his way home.
Hmmm... There was someone advertising rosecomb RIR's on CL in that area earlier this summer. I tried to contact them about some Silver Laced Wyandottes, but they never responded to my inquiry. I wonder if there is a connection?

Mine seem to like new stuff as well. In fact it is hard to dump out the bags and spread them because the chooks are in the middle of everything and I am doing good to not step on them! I have just gotten into the habit of dumping a couple of big piles and letting them move it around. Much less stressful for us all!
Mine take a while to get used to new dry leaves in the hen house. To noisy for them I think.
When I dump bags of mulch in the chicken yard they all run away, presumably because of the big black garbage bags... Big and Black/dark = scary/danger. After the empty bag is put away they go investigate, but not until the bag is gone. Too funny.

Mine could have just associated cleaning the coop with snow, almost every time I cleaned it was because it was about to snow. I am sure they think I was to blame for the snow.

I'm inclined to believe, like Wendy, that maybe he was let go intentionally.
Work and live within a couple of miles of this spot. Not close enough to spend an afternoon trying to track down a rooster, though :p

Wether he escaped or was abandoned is almost moot, how is anyone going to catch him? Poor thing is going to end up something's meal before long.

I was just asked this question, and thought I could explain it here for those who want to know:

What exactly do you guys mean by single or rose?

This is a sketch of a rose comb. They can be a variety of shapes, but you get the general idea. My rooster in my avatar has a nice rose comb. Some have called rose combs "double combs" but that isn't really accurate.

This is a single comb. Singles can be a variety of heights and points, depending on the breed.

In Dominiques, a single comb is a disqualifying fault, and a single combed Dominique isn't usually bred. That being said, there have been studies that suggest that in rose combed breeds, a resessive single comb gene may provide greater fertility in some lines. Within Dominique breeders, many will occationally breed a single comb Dom to keep that resessive gene in the pool. in the mid 19th century, it was common to see both single and rose combed Dominiques until the Plymouth Barred Rock was created, then all Dominiques had to be rose combed.....

Call me dubious, but I'm thinking.........a rooster around I-25 and GOG. They probably don't allow roosters in that area. Someone is NOT looking for this rooster and doesn't want him back home again. Just didn't have the moral fiber to try to find him another home.

Interesting about the Dominique combs, I had no idea single combed Doms even existed. Which of course means I never thought to check the chick that hatched, he (?) and the two little CL girls went back under the sitting hen this morning, the two girls stayed there and the little Dom is out with the SLW chicks, looking and acting like a normal chick, so hopefully all is now well after a good night's sleep. I will check when I get home to see what the comb looks like. I am very hopeful there are more to check.
