Colorado

hey i want to let everyone know, who lives in the colorado springs east areas

there is a place called "farmer jims feed", im not gonna link to it so you will have to look it up

they have the hen scratch from the siebert grain mill, for $8.60 a 50 lb bag... and its the best hen scratch i have ever seen

so just a heads up on this, $8.60 a bag is what i'm paying for the best hen scratch in the state....

Where is it located?
Edit: I knew I recognized the name. This place is out here in Peyton, right behind mcdonalds and walmart. I drive past it on my way to Safeway, sadly, I've never been in. I'll try to get in there sometime this week.
Thanks!

Whoops, Grandmas chickens never smelled like this.
I am thinking that it is the whole situation. You said that they were skinny when you got them, so..... they are going to be eating/drinking/pooping twice as much as a normal chicken. The ACV and yogurt that others have suggested would be a good idea. Chances are their gut bacteria were also low and so they are/were inefficient digesters of twice as much food which means more stink. And they are in a smaller coop, with different ventilation from your other chickens but because they are eating so much, it is like having eight chickens in there. I think time and probiotics will hopefully fix the smell but then, maybe you just have stinky chickens and that is why they needed a new home! LOL!

Hey all, newbie here. I live inside Fort Lupton city limits, and with the new chicken ordinance passing in the past election, my wife has consented (relented?) to raising some layers. However, I can't seem to find what the ordinance says (the city website hasn't yet been updated), or when it officially goes into effect. Anyone have that information?

Welcome! You could call your animal control person because they should know the ordinances and if they don't, then you have helped them keep their job by making them do their homework. Phew.

ya i have lived in calhan for a few years and never stopped in there until a few months ago, in fact it was a coincidence i was talking to the people at the siebert grain mill about their prices a week earlier.

the breakdown was this

500 lb tote for 80 dollars for scratch which is $8 per 50 lb bag , but then they charge i think a dollar per bag, to bag that 500 lbs into 50lb bags making them $9 dollars a bag

and the 1000lb and 1 ton totes had no price break at all, same price $9 per 50 lb bag

then i walked in to this place and was shocked they were cheaper for the same stuff, the reason is she buys 8-10 tons a week from the seibert mill so i'm sure she gets a much better price then we do . and i have no need for 10 tons of scratch lol

plus no one else sells mana pro

I went to the Rural King website and have to say I am not in agreement that they are cheaper than Big R. They are $3 higher for heated waterers, for example. They may be lower on some things but higher on others, and I don't see how it's less when shipping is factored in.

For grains I will continue to use Sweeny's, since it's locally/in-state sourced as much as possible, and since I've had the best results using their in-house starter and grower formulations. For supplies, I have to be able to save a meaningful amount of money to take my business away from the locally-owned Big R stores. I'm not saying there may not be better deals out there, only that if it comes down to less than 10%, or if I can help support local business/agriculture without breaking my budget, I'll keep my money local. For supplies, I almost always start by looking at local ads for used if it's something I can use safely - I'm as cheap as the next buyer, and have to be LOL. I just found myself more comfortable with spending as locally as possible.
