Colorado

well i raise em , and what i do is $2.25 a lb live and $4.50 per lb allready butchered, by the way i use the simla processing plant, and they charge .60 cents a lb, but that way i am selling a USDA certified butchered bird.

also if you are wondering the simla grocery store is owned by the same people , so you go there to make your appointments or call the grocery store

Sent them an email, this is the reply:

Hi Wendell,
Price of Cracked Corn is $7.65, Whole Wheat is $9.95, not sure of the Milo (will check tomorrow and let you know). Our Egg Maker pellets are 16% protein and $13.60 per bag. Thanks for your email

good prices you have to admit, i think big r's cheapest scratch is $10.80 somethig and their cord is $10 too, their egg maker pellesa are "manna pro" which i have never tried beofre going there and it turns out my hens just friggin love it, and my egg production is better than ever only a week afer switching them off big r's 50 lb bag of crap

Maarten (Simla Foods) replied to me that he is not a USDA inspected or certified processor.
Any idea what it takes to be one? Whether there are any in the surrounding area? I know Wendy was looking into the market for a mobile processor, and I'm not sure what ever became of that. Wendy, did your friend pursue that idea or was there not enough interest?

I took pics a couple days ago but am just now getting around to taking them off my phone.

It was interesting that they stayed huddled together. Usually when they are out they are all spread out. I took multiple pics and they were always in this tight group. I couldn't get any individual photos of these girls.

That's a sight I never see....chickens walking "on/in" the snow. My dainty girls won't go anywhere near the white stuff!

Ahhh, I'm so sorry.

I know egg production is down for most right now..... but I will be looking for some heritage eggs to hatch after the first of the year. Does anyone have some fertilized pure breed eggs they will sell? If so, what breeds? I tried ordering eggs from mypetchicken last year and was pretty unsuccessful. The local eggs I incubate have a 90% hatch rate. Thanks

i am blown away , and alittle bit in disbelief, as all the 4h animals that are sold at the elpaso county fair in calhan go to simla foods to be butchered, not granted simla is elbert county i wonder how this is possible?

does anyone know the laws in colorado and or el paso county on selling butchered poultry that was butchered on the farm?

i was thinking of raising several hundred meat birds this year and processing them here all in one day then selling them by the pound..

anyone know? it seems in wisconsin if you do under 1000 it is legal to do .. but what about here? anyone know the answer to this?

EDIT: it seems the answer is "0" you can NOT sell meat butchered by your self to anyone.
