Who all is going to the stock show that has bantam hatching eggs? I'm hoping that would be a good time to get some all in one spot instead of driving all over the state!

The NWSS is a good place to make contact with breeders, pick up the exhibitor list from the secretarys table. Show breeders are unlikely to have eggs available, but there are usually adults for sale or maybe older juveniles in the poultry show area. The Colo Poultry Assoc has an education area (last year on top floor of Hall of Educ) and some sale animals there throughout the NWSS. A number of swaps (sale) are along the Front Range starting March

Hi All,
Today was another 10 eggs day. Not as great as before, we were averaging 15 eggs a day before the crazy egg eating happened, but so much better than none. I am so glad I took out the two that were eating the eggs (rooster and red star). Seems like the rest of the flock has gotten back to normal.

Today I fired up my incubator. I wasn't going to do this so early, but since I now have no rooster, I figure my only chance to keep his lines going are right now. I am only going to hatch my blue eggs. I was planning on crossing my Blue Copper Marans Roo with my Easter Eggers in the hope of getting some olive eggs. I have 9 in the incubator ready to start tonight.

Fingers crossed! :)

I am planning to go the 25th, I'll touch base with you as it gets closer and let you know whether I will have eggs for you. I have 4 hens broody right now so production is way down. One due to hatch her clutch this Saturday, others later.

I have not posted here for awhile, but have tried to keep up on posts. First, WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW PEOPLE.

I wanted to give an update on the goings on here next to fountain creek. Chickens total 17 now but not many laying. We added a white silkie roo a couple of weeks ago. I had 8 quail and now have nine. I was given a lighter color coturnix roo to put in with others for a change of blood line. The foundation for the greenhouse has been poured and is well set up. I am just trying to get the forms off. Then come the 450 cinder blocks. I will post a pic soon.
I finally got my first little silkie egg today

and on another good note. I also have a white silkie roo that I picked up from a local that needed to get rid of him. she said that he was taking over her flock. Once introduced to my full sized flock, he was humbled a bit. He is now getting along with the others pretty well. The silkie hen is a little black one that I picked up from Coloradogal last spring. Does anyone know what line she hatches from? I intend to separate them in a breeding coop, collect and try hatching them. White roo and black hen. They should make some pretty colored chicks.
I am researching building a small cabinet incubator at the moment and hope to have it assembled and running by the end of January. Wish me luck. I hope to have some silkies for sale later this spring as my flock is large enough for the moment, but I just have to try and hatch these little eggs.

I think white can be dominant, but not totally sure, they were discussing this on another thread about the silkie colors, will see if I can find it and paste it here. Good luck on the eggs in the bator now!

Thought I would paste this here too, is from the Turkey thread......

White Holland -- Tom 25-36 lbs, Hen 16-20 lbs

Black - Tom 23-33 lbs, Hen 14-18 lbs

Slate -- Tom 23-33 lbs, Hen 14-18 lbs

Bourbon Red -- Tom 23-33 lbs, Hen 14-18 lbs

Beltsville Small White - Tom 17-21 lbs, Hen 10-12 lbs

Interesting, thanks! I emailed the person who posted that ad on CL to see if eggs are marked as to breeds. Then I looked at the map. Wayyyyy East. At those prices, unless they want to meet me somewhere a lot closer to town I probably won't buy any. Will let you know if I hear anything back.

I was just notified my Midget White eggs are shipping today (my request) so should be here Thursday or Friday. Hoping their arrival coincides with my new incubator. Really hoping I get some to hatch.

When mixing black and white Silkies all bets are off for color of offspring, White can be dominant or recessive and can cover a multitude of other colors, as I recall. It will be interesting to see what hatches, samsr.

I have 3 Silkies that hatched last Saturday going to the brooder in the coop today, one zipping in the hatcher along with a beautiful pale green Colorado Mayahn, and 6 other Silkie and 7 other Mayahns in the hatcher set to hatch tomorrow (all were set to hatch tomorrow, these two are the proverbial early birds LOL). Then I will have more going to the hatcher on Thursday due to hatch Saturday, some Silkies and a bunch from the local egg seller with production Reds, those eggs are big, so whatever hatches should be good layers. If anyone is looking for chicks most of these will be available, either as first week chicks or in a few weeks as started and no longer needing heat (feathered).
