Colorado

Hello all you wonderful Newbies! And ditto to the Oldies checking in, also wonderful I might add........
I just have mutts as well, but am near Boulder. Haven't checked on fertility yet but the Roos are more active.
Windy, snowing, tossing scratch and wishing the chooks a good day as I book it back to the house!

Just moved this week's hatch to the brooder - set 24, 22 to hatcher, 17 hatched. These were the Mayahns (mixes from Mayah's flock) - 5 of the chicks hatched from blue eggs so either Collonca or EE mixes.

eek, sorry for the windy snowing part, we have a breeze but sunshine and warming up, thank goodness!

I woke up to one buff orpington hatched and a pip in one of the silkie eggs. Its just a matter of time now. My kids are facinated with them hatching. It really is quite interesting and fun.

Beautiful sunny WARM day looks to be the forecast!

I too wondered if people who butcher their extra roosters put them up the last few weeks, and if it makes their meat anymore tender????

Dnetschke, What kind of Bantams are you looking for?

Pozee, how big will your rooster grow out pen be? I have toyed with the idea of building one, but have not done much research as to how much room they need, etc. I know if you hatch them or grow them out all together they usually get along, but have only done it with three or four.

Welcome to the new folks. Had to take a short break from BYC.....

There are lots of people out there who live close to the Springs who have eggs and or chicks. Many aren't on BYC for various reasons. I have my first test batch in the incubator, and tomorrow will be day 7. Hoping for a good hatch. Anything will be better than last year.

We haven't saved any eggs for hatching this past week, as the temps have been SOOOOO cold. If things look good when we candle, we may start collecting for fertile hatching egg orders that are already lined up.

I wish phase 3 was done......

Glad to see you back Wendel! Best of luck on your test hatch! How is Beth? What is phase 3? I can't seem to recall, which is nothing new!

I am not sure yet, thinking maybe 6x20-ish? Depends on which space I use, right now I'd like to use an area pretty well shaded on the side of the barn which is a very irregular shape.

On a related topic of building new coops and pens, I dropped in on Centennials consignment auction online. They sold truss seconds cheap, cheap, cheap. Cheaper than you could ever build one for (looks like about $3 for a 12 footer maybe less). I have bought stacks of them in the past that I'll incorporate into my new coop and run.
