Colorado

Hello! I'm in southern area of Denver proper. I've been on BYC for a while but mostly lurking and learning. But we finally took the plunge about a week ago and got chicks... got tired of waiting for my hubs to finish the coop and figured this way he'll have no other choice b/c I told him if it's not done in 2 mos he's going to have birds roosting in the garage and pooping on his bikes!!

This is our first foray into chickens, so we got a variety of birds to see what we like. So I've got one of each RIR, Blk Austrolorp, Ameraucana, NH Red and Barred Rock and I'm waiting on a Golden Comet and Speckled Sussex that are supposed to be coming in in the next week. I'm also looking for a Delaware, but haven't been able to find 1 locally yet. Does anyone know anyone selling Delawares? There was a guy at the Denver chicken swap last summer selling them but I didn't get his contact info. Hoping next weekend will be nice enough that people come to the swap, we'll be at the limit of age difference and I'm not looking to set up a 2nd brooder.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

I was out making chicken food today (bought a bunch of whole grains and mixed my own) and noticed Amber, our EE, wasn't acting like herself. She's standing in one spot instead of exploring the yard with the other chickens. Her wings were droopy and she was fluffed up. She didn't care about food or water and was moving really slowly. She hasn't laid an egg in a week. I'm worried she's egg bound. I gave her a soak in a warm bath then forced her to eat some yogurt with ground egg shell in it. She's resting in the bathroom tonight. I'm going to give her another warm bath in the morning if she hasn't laid an egg yet. I hope that's all that's wrong and it gets resolved. She's one of our favorites!
I don't know if any of these make sense or not on remedying egg boundness...i couldn't watch all of it as it was downloading like molasses....

Welcome kismetspawn.
I have some Delaware's coming from Meyer next week. I how many do you want? I could see if the hatchery can add an other chick or two onto my order.
Let me know. Maybe pm me if you want to work something out. I am in Boulder.

Chickypoo and chirpy! I'm in Parker (elbert Cty) and I'm so excited to see neighbors on here. I'm brand new to chickens and I love it!!! I have 2 golden-sex links, 2 brown leghorn, and now 2 silkies. They are quite addicting! I'm eager to learn from everyone here. My kids are loving them too and I can't wait for eggs!

A warm welcome to all the newbies!!! Yes, chickens are addicting, and be prepared for "chicken math", it can and will rule your roost! :)

Wow, winds have really picke up here, a small snow shower "blew" through, for about two minutes, hope everyone has their their places on lock down, as this wind can things not nailed down on the road.

Wind is getting bad out here right now.

Amber hasn't laid an egg but is getting a little energy back. She was in the bathroom all day and jumped up on the counter this afternoon. My daughter felt inside the vent and couldn't feel an egg. We put her back outside with the flock and she ran to the nest box. I thought for sure she'd lay an egg but when we came home from dinner there was still nothing. She was looking at the food but didn't eat anything. I'm going to force her to eat and drink more tomorrow. Hoping she'll keep improving.

We hatched 9 of 15 Cream Legbar eggs. 5 boys and 4 girls. They're so cute and we got two light grey males, which is great. Hopefully we already have a buyer for the girls. And tomorrow night we're setting 30 more Cream eggs and 14 lemon blue Cochin eggs. Baby chicks!

Are these last years pullets? Nice hatch rate! Are the LB large fowl or Bantam?
