Colorado

Hi Maggiemo,

Thanks for your helpful reply about your own crowing hens! This is Speedy Buffington (aka Buffy), who has always raced around faster than her/his broodermates. S/he's nearly 9 weeks old now - this pic was taken almost 3 weeks ago.

Oh boy, yeah. I'm gonna say that is a rooster. Look at the cankles on him, and comb and waddles for a 6 week old. He will be delicious in 4 months or so. Someone might want him.

Busy week here, even busier weekend, got tons done, even though it was windy and cloudy.

Welcome to all the new Colorado Peeps! So many cute baby chicks and chickens.

Very nice! What are their personalities like?
They are much more active than the others (EE, RO and Welsummer) so I"m guessing they are going to be flightier They look at things more intently but I wonder if that has something to do with the monster muffs. They probably interfere with their vision.

Maggiemo, I had to look up Cankles. Hadn't seen that word before. Is it just that the legs are super thick? Or is it a presumption of an infection? If just super thick, I have a couple more "guaranteed pullets" with the same problem. I have to wonder if I'll get any eggs from my first bunch of chickens :(

haha, nothing wrong. Just no differentiation between the calf and ankle, cankle. Pullets usually have more slender legs. That said, I have some big boned cinnamon queen pullets with some serious cankle action going on.
