Colorado

Hi, I am by Florence and have a mix flock! I really like my silver lace wyandottes and looking for more! I have 4 black australops(rooster and 3 hens) and a mix of buff brahmas which I don't know the sex yet but I believe hens, and one is a cross with Orpington and then a rooster that is Orpington/brahma mix if anyone is looking

Many feathers- I have 2 silver laced wyandotte pullets and 1 barred rock pullet left, they are 3.5-4 months old. I am extremely attached to one of them "Wobbles" that I healed up, when she was 5-6 weeks old she couldn't walk right. Now she's in with my ayam cemani and haffies.

Winter is coming though, and I need to get rid of all my non breeding project pullets if anyone wants these last 3 girls let me know.

I got it. My devices seem to not want to upload picts today again. The byc peeps are working on helping me figure out why. I love this forum/website/people. I'm on here far more than Facebook.

My boys stitches get removed today and they should be home by the end of this weekend from their decrowing surgery in ft collins

My bf says no more roos, we have 21 roosters. Agh. More caponizing is planned for this weekend.

Glad to see that everyone is out enjoying/ working in the beautiful weather. I was down at the HS State Cross Country meet in CS yesterday and it was fun. My kiddo ran well and had a great time and that is what counts.
So, I finished processing the extra quail. I would have done them sooner but my neighbor wanted to learn how and so we had an extra roo and extra quail day on Friday and we taught one more person how to process. I made a quail size killing cone out of a water bottle and that works well. (Graphic content next FYI) I like the killing cone because they bleed out. I did just wring the neck of one of the smaller quail but then when you clean it, there is much more blood in the body and so even though they are small, I will still use a cone.
My neighbor's roos were very small at 3 months, could be the feed or the breed, whatever- but my two year roo, whom no one likes in the flock and he is rough on the girls, was huge. I should weigh him for grins.
Enjoy the beautiful day! 50 mph winds up here......

Hi CO Peeps,

Been awhile since I have posted, been swamped and haven't had much time for playing online. We are in full harvest mode now, gardens are coming down everyday, pulling tomatoe out of the garden still, got two chords of firewood delivered and we had to stack it, built 6 new nest boxes for main coop, cleaning up property for winter and anything else you can think of. Here are some shots of the nest boxes.....

We have been getting on average 18 eggs a day, last week we had a day where we got 21 eggs, the most in one day. We have donated 24 dozen eggs so far to the two charities that we are currently collaborating with, The Redistribution Center and Harvest of Hope Pantry in Boulder. So between the two charities we are donating 6 dozen eggs a week. Here is a shot of the eggs we got in a weeks time, this are the clean eggs, 127 in a week. This does not include the broken, cracked or malformed eggs, which was 15 more.

I am very happy we decided to get the rainbow pack so we get the multi colors of eggs. Left Eye, the girl that is blind in one eye after being pecked, decided to join the gang during free range time last week. Makes me feel good that she is finally a member again in her flock.

We had a very large coon and a smaller one visit last night. We have a camera on the coop area and we watched the video this am. One looks to be 30 pounds and on screen looks like a small dog. They didn't attempt to bust into then coop, one was on top of the enclosed run and was walking around, scary! They mainly were scavenging around the feeding stations in the free range areas. No wonder he broke the trap, there is now way we will fit in the trap. We are looking into different traps, now I am gonna worry about the gang. Those coons were big!

Lastly Happy Harvest

There isnt muchnposting going on these days. (Cricket sounds). Chirp chirp chirp
I finally got my first eggs from my silkie americaunas. Almost a teal in color. Its kind of interesting. I have tried to get a picture of the color of the eggs. But pictures just dont do them justice.
My large white leghorn rooster died a couple of weeks ago one night. It looked like he tried to jump up on the roost and hit his head on the ceiling and broke his neck. All the rest of my chickens are in good health. It was just a strange occurance.
Ifrom the lack of posts, i would say everyone is preparing for winter at the moment and very busy. I know that feeling.
My greenhouse project is about 3/4 done. It has turned out quite large. 16x24 in the greenhouse itself and then 10x24 in the shed up top. It has been holding temp pretty well through the cold nights thus far. Next week is hunting and then get back after the greenhouse to finish it up before the really cold weather hits.

I would love to see a pic of how your greenhouse is coming out. That's next year's project for us.

I've been travelling a lot so not many posts from me. I have some detective work to do when I get home to figure out why we are getting 0 eggs from 50+ chickens. (actually we got 1 yesterday but that's the only one in over 2 weeks!).
Gonna check for lice, worms, and something stealing the eggs. Appetites and energy levels are good. But a few are shaking their heads occasionally. Hopefully I can find something to remedy.
