Colorado

Glad to hear I'll be coming home to nice weather. I won't be able to do any projects for outside. I gotta get the house ready for my mom to come into town tomorrow, then pack for 2 different trips. I'll come home from one on friday and leave on saturday for another one. lol

I love having cameras around the house. I've been able to check on all the animals while I've been gone. I also got to catch which dog has  been getting into stuff in the laundry room and chewing on the gate. I might have to board her when no one will be there! Stupid dog.

Now where have you jet setters gone?

She's ordering (I jumped the gun - she hasn't ordered *yet*) 6 bantam phoenix eggs from Boggy Bottom Bantams. With the good news I got as far as my broken brain is concerned, I'm hoping I'll be back to a full paycheck by the time any possible chicks are getting ready to move out of the brooder. I'm also really glad I built my brooder *before* finding out my brain was in worse shape than they thought. If not, I'm sure I'll be on here and on CL looking for anyone that wants some tiny chickens. :)

This is definitely the first time my testing well has turned out to be a bad thing. I did so well on every cognitive testing they put me through in the hospital and after that it gave everyone the impression I just had a concussion! They never waited around to see how I reacted cognitively *after* the testing and talking had happened. Brains are funny.

EDIT: Because I was looking into poultry groups here in CO, I found this list of breeders on the Colorado Poultry Association's website: http://www.freewebs.com/coloradopoultryassociation/breedersdirectory.htm - I noticed a number of them were Silkie breeders, if the person who was looking for Silkie chicks a month or so ago was still looking. Might be worth looking into if you haven't found any yet.

The date on the eggs is 12/31 & 1/2. No hatching yet. I candled, but idk what I'm looking at. My friend kerstiens is coming over tomorrow morning and we're going to candle all the eggs in the bators!

I have 53 eggs set. I'm sure not all will hatch. This is making me bonkers!

Hatching eggs drives me bonkers too. At this stage you won't see much, just darkness and if you're lucky a beak peeking through the inner membrane. You can sometimes see movement too (just a big black blob that shifts) but not always, they rest a lot.
You can hear peeping if you hold it up to your ear sometimes too.

53 eggs! holy buckets! the hatching season is just getting started! You go!!

No hatching yet. The hovabator 1588 is having a very hard time holding humidity. I'm afraid that I will drown baby chicks in their shells if I add water. Humidity is at 31%.

My friend will come by later to candle with me. I must be doing something wrong?!?

No outdoor projects here for the time being, snow everywhere, no garage that has the space to do projects. So for now, I am looking through seed catalogs, and gardening magazines to try and figure out what will grow here at this altitude..... I ordered some Heirloom seeds off Ebay this year, will see if they grow!

Tempted to order some quail hatching eggs, 25+ for $5.00, but not sure I need to add quail babies at this time of year! I had planned on hatching out only purebreed chicks this year, but am rethinking that since I sold most of my mixed breed pullets during the fall, I may go ahead and hatch out some more of them to integrate into my laying flock, and build it back up again. I do enjoy selling their eggs so people can taste the difference from store bought factory eggs and farm fresh!

Hope your eggs hatch Double, what day are they at???

Nice having a camera so you can look at your critters even when you are not there!!!
If you want CO quail eggs, nice birds, contact COsteveo on BYC for eggs out of the Denver area. My quail are not laying yet and samsr also has quail but I don't know if his are laying either.

The first hatch is always the most stressful!

Glad your friend is stopping by. My eggs always seem to hatch late, even my kids were overdue! LOL!
