This is my silkie, no comb at all, just tons of feathers, not the best picture, but all I have right now. He has bright blue near his wattles. I know nothing about this breed, so not sure what sex it is???? lol

Looks like a girl to me. I don't see any streamers in the crest, or the boy hackle feathers. How old is it?
Here is ours that I thought was female for a long time. I know it's not the best picture but see those darker longer feathers in the crest? Those are the streamers. That's when I first started thinking he may be a boy. Also notice the difference in the hackle between mine and yours.

@Suncatcher that defintely looks like a hen to me, and I've had lots of Silkies.
They're great little chickens, and don't mind getting down in the dirt with the rest of the flock, as long as they have a buddy to follow around. The buddy doesn't even have to be another Silkie or banty. But, they instinctively know another Silkie, even when they weren't raised together they will manage to flock to each other, it's quite cute.

Mystery solved, I was in the coop working this morning and she was in the nest and laid an egg, even did the egg song. Guess, I need to find her a boy of her own......... Trst that is a very pretty little guy!!!

A neighbor like that is terrible to deal with, sorry you have to be next door to her.

I think Cackle has no problem with adding to an order, but changing it outright is where they will charge extra. It is really hard to find people who will buy roosters, I have seen them go for free, no problem then as they usually end up being eaten.

Snowing here, coming down pretty hard right now, not sure how much we are supposed to get, I did hear we have two storms converging again.

I doubt they will charge you anything, at least I hope they don't!

So my boys are getting really unruly, they go after the girls all the time, and since they out number them, is hard on the pullets. I am having to rethink my grow out pen...... I will be culling two of them this next month, they are blacks, not a favorite color of mine, very boring, also their type is not the best.

I need to build at least two more chicken tractors, just waiting for the weather to get nicer to get this accomplished.

Hi all, I'm in Colorado Springs, Colorado and I just ordered some Rhode Island Reds for my backyard. I want to say that this forum has helped me so much in learning what I should do. So thanks to all posters.

We are allowed to have up to 10 hens (no roosters) and I am going to start with 3 and I can't wait until they get here in a couple of weeks. Of course, my co-workers think I am insane.

Oh and by the way, my local newspaper ran a story yesterday on raising chickens and mentioned this site! I was reading on this site way before the article, but it was great to see the mention. I hope the publicity about raising chickens doesn't hurt the cause. Plenty of people expressed surprise that it was allowed within city limits.
