Grats Uzi! Those look great! There is one that's real dark and I can't actually see veining; nausicaq 4? What do you think the status is with that one? Maybe just a much thicker/darker shell? Just curious, but you named all of them (hen source?). How did you know which egg came from which bird? Also, just curious what you're using for a light source... it does an excellent job of lighting up the interior of the eggs!

On another note, what a marvelous morning it is outside! Sun shining, blue skies, no wind (here anyway), and feeling much warmer than it actually is temp wise

I think my birds feel the difference as well as they seem happier and more "chipper" this morning. This afternoon I'm heading up to the mountains to visit a mineral hot springs for a good long soak! after the past week, I deserve it! Even started out the day with a few fresh (warm) eggs

I'm sure the guy buying them to hatch them will benefit.

I am a bit aggravated by one group however as they successfully cut a slice in their water bucket (second time, same group, same cut right above nipple level) causing stalagmites of water/bedding/poo under the bucket location

So directly, I'm off to TSC to purchase additional (replacement/backup) buckets to make a 3rd water bucket for them! Grrrrr

Considered just letting them be thirsty, but can't make the whole group suffer for the one culprit... If I caught it in the act, I'd wring its neck.

That is wonderful news Uzi!
You will have so much fun with the littles. Congrats!

Thanks! That 1 is definitely a dud. It had a detached air sac & not great shell quality so I wasn't expecting it to develop. They are labeled to the hen that laid them! :D Right now, each hen lays a very distinct egg shape & since I only have 4 it's easy to catch them while they're laying the egg to match egg shape to hen. I have the OvaScope from Brinsea, but I just used the light source for it here so I could get pictures of the eggs to show my mom & grandparents. It's a really good candler so far, but I've only used it on white eggs so far. Not sure how well it works on darker eggs. :)

The little polish have a bit of color coming in now. I think they will be a nice addition to my addiction lol.

They must be warm enough since they sleep all over the brooder not just under the light. So far so good.

Northern Colorado Feeders Supply had some Iowa Blues and one last BA. I guess I am only getting the one BA this year. They are not using the hatchery I am trying to avoid so I went ahead and got 2 Iowa and the one BA. They do have a BSL that is needing a home pretty quick she is getting big (about 7 or 8 weeks) super tame too. Just way to big for me to put with the littles.

I will be setting the big brooder in the coop this weekend. I wont move them to it for about 2 or 3 weeks yet. To hard to maintain the proper temp for the tiny ones.

No more pasty butt on the little polish and very active.

Woohoo for no more pasty butt! :D

I think getting them onto the chick granules helped perk them up too. They were feeding them mash which I have no problem with but just not something I can do here since I would have to feed then go to work while it got gross sitting there all day.

DH freaked a bit when I went to wash little Jennifer and the dog reared up to lick her foot. (the foot was the only exposed part of her) LOL
"IT TASTED ME!!!"
Poor thing.
DH said that from now on if a chick is coming out of the brooder the dog goes OUTSIDE. Freaked him out thinking the dog may get one. My dogs are HUGE and the chicks would be a tiny snack if they did. I had it under control but DH knows the dogs are stubborn and would knock me down if need be.

I am looking forward to seeing what a seabright polish cross will look like. Good work with the pics. Very clear on the veining.

My son keeps popping his head in and spitting out silly names. Now he is calling one Rap-Tar and another Gigantor.

I think I still like the name Judy better than Gigantor.
Sadly I think the name Grandma is sticking for the little white EE. Poor thing I was calling her Opal but now she is called Grandma more often than not.

I am so glad to have some warmer temps coming. So much to do to get ready for spring. My flowers were coming up before the last storm. I hope the black tulips make it. I had to get onto the neighborhood kids last year for picking them and my black iris. (Yup I am "that" little old lady now)

The older our Dane gets the less interested he is in the chickens, after eating three of them when he was under 6 months. But, for some unknown reason, he charges anytime I pick up on of the hens. He gets like, spastic excited and I actually had to whack his leg with my foot last time. We don't know why he does it, and he does it to both me and my husband. We're hoping he calms more over this next year, he just had his second birthday, and they're supossed to calm down even more throughout the second and third years. I told my husband, this is the last gigantic dog we get, I had more control over our Doberman than I do of Archer. I'm just too small to be dealing with 160lbs of dog. I do love his personality though.
If we named one of our chickens 'Nana' which is what our kids call my Mother in Law, I think she'd kill me. Lol. How funny your son decided on Grandma.

I think the son is doing it to mess with me lol. He is 25 and full of funny ways to get my goat. He is also the same one that named Poptart and the notorious Z.

I do not think our dogs are ever going to calm down. They are both 6 years old now and have the energy of Jack Russel terriers. They are Weimaraner and German Wire haired pointer mixes.
Both breeds are bird dogs and both parents were hunting companions. I am ok with them but they do knock me around some. I also told DH that this is the last of the large dogs we will have. The last straw for me was the huge muddy paw print I took to the forehead when they were doing the spastic charge for the door to come in with a brief pause to greet me. I thought DH was going to pass out he was laughing so hard.

I am so excited! I candled a day early (Day 6 for these eggs) since I was discouraged about my shipped eggs still not arriving & holy smokes! I was hoping for at least 1 of my flock's eggs being fertile. I was not expecting 4/7 to be developing into chicks! OMG I'm so nervous now! I hope they make it the rest of the 16 days.

Not sure what I'm gonna do now if/when my Phoenix bantam eggs show up. Might have to go buy a backup incubator from TSC this weekend!
Congrats! That is an awesome flashlight!!

Or she may be delighted to hear one of your chickens is named Nana!!

Omg! I think my husband would pee his pants laughing at me!
When Archer was about 8 months, he took off to get something, and his thigh bone, or whatever the heck that huge bone in their back leg is, hit the back of my calf and I had a fist size black bruise for three weeks. It hurt so bad, I laughed for twenty minutes.

Or she may be delighted to hear one of your chickens is named Nana!!

I have known her for 15 years..I promise you, she would not be amused. Lol.

My polish had pasty bums too. (All of them at Kiowa did) I put them on fermented feed right away and only had a day of pasty! I had just switched the bigs and littles over to fermented feed last week just before I got the Polish, so perfect timing! It's amazing how much the fermented feed changes their poo! (Texture and smell!)
