Yeah we have one tub in the house with the only shower in it as well. We are thinking about putting the incubator on top of the wood burning stove in the living room. Obviously as long as we are not burning a fire

. I have two incubators, I was thinking if having the one that has the fan and the turner be the hatching incubator and the other one could be used as a brooder maybe for the first few days? Ideas on having the two incubators? The one with turner holds 42 eggs, don't want to do much more than that as we don't have space for a bunch. One is farm innovators no auto turner. I will have a bin brooder or hopefully a broody who could help, just depends on timing of it all. Obviously if we have a broody, I would much rather give her a clutch and see how serious she is and go from there. I think my one cornish that tends to be broody more than anyone else, might be beginning again. Moved her off golf balls three times today.
Yeah, congrats on your success! Any word on those Phoenix Eggs?
Thanks so much! The Phoenix eggs arrived last Wednesday and as soon as these guys are done hatching, I'll be cleaning out the incubator and sticking them right in. The breeder sent me 4 extras so I'll have 3 eggs stacked on top of the other 7 that I'll have to hand turn before finding out which eggs are viable for hatching (I think at least 2 are too small to use for hatching - they are smaller than my hens' eggs!). This bit of success definitely has bolstered my confidence for the next clutch of eggs. :)

Just remember one thing. Hatching shipped eggs can be quite frustrating with the elevation change and all. Hatch rates tend to be somewhat minimal. Dont get discouraged though. You have already proven that you can have a successful hatch. So keep your head up. A 35% hatch rate out of shipped eggs is outstanding.

I guess I should have clarified that my idea of confidence in this chicken project is getting 1 chick to hatch! LOL I'll be super surprised and thrilled with just 1 chick from those eggs. :D

Hey folks, I know some of you have or want bees. There's a national thing going on right now sponsored by Bayer.

"Let’s grow 50 million flowers and increase forage areas to ensure bees have access to the food they need. Each seed packet of 200 seeds gets us just a little closer. Share a post about how you helped bees using the hashtag #FeedABee. For more information, please visit FeedABee.Bayer.us."

If you would like a free packet of flower seeds, please visit the site. Here's a report passed on by one of our bee club officers:

"FEED a BEE" CAMPAIGN FAR OUTSTRIPS EXPECTATIONS

Bees fascinate people and nearly everyone we encounter wants to do something to improve bee health. That’s why we launched the 'Feed a Bee' campaign to plant 50 million flowers this year.

I’m happy to report it seems our goal might be a little low! We officially launched the campaign last week and this week it seemed to go a bit viral. It was featured on a site operated by the Today show. By this afternoon, we had reached 15 million flowers! That’s more than 5,000 seed packets that have been requested from around the country. The 'Feed a Bee 'website has had more than 50,000 unique visitors this week alone. Wow! Thanks to all of you who have shared this effort. If you need more information, visit
www.feedabee.com.

I already ordered my packet and brought the flower total to 25,679,866

So it has been a while since I have had any time to visit, sadly this is not a social call. :( My Production Red had a dirty vent Sunday, I gave her a bath and while I was drying her off I noticed that he abdomen was swollen and red. She has laid every day for a few months now so I know she is not egg bound. Her legs are also red in places. She is eating, laying, active, and complaining as usual... maybe a little more vocal since the bath and one on one time. I don't know what to think????? Have any of you had this????

Very cool! You should start a thread just for this :)

Well, here's something crazy: the third egg has a pip! Or, more like an actual hole.

I'm officially gobsmacked with this.

I had the 2 hatched chicks out of the incubator to get their shells out when I noticed the other egg had a chick trying to break out. I put the hatched chicks back & quickly covered the incubator again (that thing reeks OMG).

Of course, because I assume they'll take after their father, they turned around & gave me the stink eye for a good while before fall asleep.

I'm just overwhelmed with the fact this actually worked & is almost a 75% success. This is just too much. I can't believe it's actually happening!
