Colorado

I have tried to buy All Flock from our feed store, but they don't carry it, I have heard good things about it.

You could buy Cochins, or breeds that are known for their broodiness, most people hang on to their broodies, at least I do! Welcome to the Colorado thread!

Strange fog was hanging around here today, sun is finally out in full force! Birds are singing, and getting warmer by the day! Yay, summer is on the way!

Here are some of my last hatchlings, they get big sooooooo fast!

I love their colouring and feathers!

Thanks, I have had some unique colors this year, could be from my Calico boy, or ??????

Seven more in the brooder, hmmmm, chicken math is catching up to me I better look out!!!! lol

Maggie that is super cool! My oldest is 11 and she would just be over the moon to have owls living in our front yard. We have a pair that live somewhere in our neighborhood, and they come to our garage about once a month and talk to each other. It always wakes my daughter, and she gets super excited about it. We actually think they're responsible for the chicken deaths we blamed on a cat. Love them, but they did a good amount of damage last year.

Thank you! I would feel better beyond this issue if they were all eating something that doesn't have the possibility of harming him in the long run.

So, I did look him over again as I was moving the flock so I could spray & dust & clean up everything & he definitely has pin feathers coming in on his neck. Am I right in assuming this means molting? I've been having a hard time finding anything on signs of a rooster molting (everything is based on hen behaviour changes), but if I'm remembering correctly feathers only regrow during molt. He is suddenly very red in not just the comb/waddle but also the skin around them & in the area on his chest with the feather loss.

I still couldn't find evidence of parasites, but I could of course be overlooking something. I guess I'll just continue to monitor him & the rest of the hens.

If you looked him over real good, then I'm sure you didn't miss anything. I'm really curious how old he is, we had some molt at an odd time of year, because they were too young to do it the previous winter.
The all flock is also called flock raiser sometimes. I'm surprised it's harder for some people to find...I guess we're spoiled with Big R being right down the road?

Awesome about all the hatching going on! The babies are so cute. Shame they do not stay small for long.

I think it is neat to have the owls in the yard. Scares the dickens out of me to think of them taking the chickens.

Been really busy getting the yard into shape. I am mostly on my own for it since DH is on call so much. Took down the honeysuckle this year trying to eliminate some of the places the wild birds like to call home. Gonna miss that massive vine. Filled the truck bed with the remains of my vine. Had to squish it down to fit it too. I had not realized it had gotten so big. But I guess that makes room for more flowers for the bees and butterflies.
I am not willing to let go of my lilacs though. I have about 18 of them and they are blooming right now.

If anyone is looking for a lilac that is not like the others look at the Sensation Lilac. The flower petals are deep purple with a white edge to them. Very pretty shrub.

I'm so upset! One of my ccl escaped! Well, 3 escaped, but I caught 2.

A neighbor just came by to say she saw her in a tree an hour ago. She's not there now.

2 houses down across the street I heard the roofers say "pollo loco ".. I guess I looked a bit crazy walking up and down everywhere for 90 minutes calling out "Chicken, bawk bawk bawk. Chicken! ?"

Hopefully she will come home close to dusk. I would keep a look out and fingers crossed.
She should be able to hear her flock mates so hopefully that will guide her home.
