The last 2 months at work have left me severely depressed, so this weekend I was determined to get the new coop painted inside. And I got it done!

I felt pretty good that I accomplished something, even though I did not get the roosts up yet.

The flock was less impressed with my work & refused to check it out. At least they've figured out the ramp & skyway!

It did look like I wasn't going to get the painting finished when this storm rolled right passed us instead of over us.

Also, Memnoch's face is getting all bumpy & fat as his waddle grows out! He still hasn't figured out how to make his crow sound like a real crow, but he's working on it. I like that he lets me handle him & that he likes to piggy back on my shoulder like Odysseus does. Too bad Mercury is less trusting of me still.

Our broody has one chick for sure that I saw, looks like a little buff colored. It peeped it's head up between mama's feathers on her tail. not sure if she has more or not.

Long story short, checked both hives, all is well with both and here's a shot of one of the queens.

That is a very cool picture!

Lovely coop, and such a handsome cockerel!

Congrats!

So first day yesterday without rain! Got a lot done outside, even though it was breezy.... hope everyone has a great week!

@21hens-incharge sorry about your little Jennifer.. the Polish are so cute. By the time my 2 birds left, Schocki, my chocolate Orp, had been pecked bald and scabbed on her head by those two. She hates the BluKote, but it works. I hope you can find and isolate the ones who are after Jennifer.

Will you be coming to the Denver swap this coming Saturday at Earth Dog Denver? There are many more people who want to raise chickens here in Denver, and you might be able to find good homes for your chicklets there. I have a neighbor just three houses down who has a beautiful coop and a bee hive in her very urban backyard, and practically every day someone asks about raising chickens. I can't keep a bee hive because of my B&B guests, but I'm putting in a lot more flowers so her bees will find a welcome.

I will be hitting the Brighton swap on the 13th. I don't think I would trust my old truck with the Denver trip. On the 13th my DH will have the tow truck available if I break down. That old truck has 200 thousand miles on it and was not taken care of before we got it.
I am sure the reason for the hair pulling was the crowded coop. They were supposed to have already been thinned out almost a month ago. Man they grow so fast. She is in with the other polish and young BSL so will be fine.
Weird thing about the hair pulling is the night before when I went to close the coop up I noticed she was on the roost with all the bigger chicklets. Wedged in between two fatties. I guess they wanted her 4 inches of roost too.

Uzi,
NICE! They will sure appreciate it once they are out there and it starts raining on them. You did a bang up job with it.
I think the females are naturally a little shier then the males since they are the ones that have to be sitting on the eggs. Nature protecting itself with the fight (rooster thing) and flight (hen thing).
I am sorry your job has you all depressed. Mine kind of stinks lately too.

Thanks and for what is worth me and Mamacita have an understanding. So much so that I moved her this am fairly soon after the second one had hatched as it was still damp. Anyway, the issue was, I couldn't fit the metal dog kennel in the coop last night. So I put her in a cat carrier in the coop after she got off to eat after I discovered the pips yesterday. Well that carrier was just too small plus I didn't want mama taking the babies to free range as they can squeeze through the fencing. So I set up our small wire dog kennel in the covered run and blocked the littles from being able to gawk at her up close. I then took the cat carrier to the run and then moved mama first into kennel, then quickly worked and moved the two babies and the eggs. One of which was pipping, she didn't like the initial switch but I think she will be happier as she has more space. Those pictures were taken shortly after she got settled. She didn't attack me or anything when I moved her. She definitely was nervous and wanted her eggs back! She will be able to take the babies out in a few days and hopefully we can co mingle them with the littles. Not sure about that plan, but not sure what else to do.

LOL so the look was more of a "OK OK ENOUGH touching" She is such a good mama to let you move her and not get too flustered. I see that look on the GLW here and it means business. She is more than happy to give a good pinch and twist. Draws blood given the chance.
I hope all goes well with them hanging in with the others. I am sure the mama will be very protective of them.
