he is about 3 days old. buff brahma so his feet have feathers and i think he has been trying to pluck them. and since they are all swollen and bloody he wants to pluck them even more. others are helping him too. i separated him for a little in a small container so that made him stop for a short time. then washed and i put him back with the rest. they are going to sleep so maybe he will leave them alone for now.

Wondering how the wee one is today........
Hoping he/she has stopped this nonproductive activity.

I had a quick question for all the baby chicken raising pros here. My youngest 3 are 7 weeks old. Is it okay to start them on the all flock raiser/grower? Asking because I just ran out of chick feed & literally have $0 in my bank account until next payday, but I DO have a ton of the all flock feed. Thank you!

(Got better pictures of Sparta finally)

Perhaps a bit young but I started mine on it at 8 weeks. I like that feed by the way.

If you have all flock and 0 dollars then for sure feed that to them.
I think they will do fine on it. Your smaller chickens may need you to break up the pellets a bit if they are having trouble eating them but I think they will be just fine.

Remembering how tiny seabrites are.

Thank you! If it's the crumbles version (I read somewhere on here that crumbles are better than pellets during the summer), would that still be too big for them? The 2 older Sebright mixes have been on it for about a week now since they were already 8 weeks. With how quickly the chicks develop & change, I wasn't sure if starting a few days earlier on it would cause problems.

I did not know it even came in crumbles. I have only found the pellets. Crumbles would certainly be the better choice given the age and size of your biddies.
I don't think it will cause any harm being a few days before they turn 8 weeks old.
I do know my adult hens will go nuts for chick starter treating it like some special treat. The biddies I have eat the all flock very well. (I have to fill the 7 pound feeder every day. Bunch of piggies they are.)

It does sound like you do not have much choice but to give them the all flock since that is what is available. You can always switch them back to the chick starter when you get your paycheck if you like. I personally would give all them the all flock once switched over and not switch back.

It was all they had at my local TSC. They must have been getting ready to stock later because there was nothing on the shelves for poultry that day. I'm sure I could get my mom to buy me a bag of chick starter if it's better to wait, but you know how it is when you have to ask your parents for help when you're supposed to be an adult. :| I already feel like the world's biggest moocher since they've been helping me out a lot after the car accident.

All 5 chicks are feed hogs! I can't believe how much they pack away, but then it shows with how fast they grow! My almost 3 month old baby cockerel is about as big as his sire!

It will be fine not I, however I will be fine too.

Thank you! :)

he is still picking on his feet but they don't look as raw. trying to heal a little. no idea why he is doing it. i got 9 other brahmas sane age and they are not doing it. maybe its something mental like an OCD or something :( (got to make sure i don't breed him/her...)

does anyone know any good(not too expensive) companies that sell organic non gmo feed? can pick up. doesn't have to be packaged.
