Colorado

Hey Everyone! I need your help. I'm located in Pueblo, CO and I need a good vet to look at one of my ducklings. I believe it may have Brooder Pneumonia.

Yesterday I had a duckling start to wheeze bad. Almost like it was constantly gasping for air. This happed most of yesterday. I did some research and found Brooder Pneumonia. I looked at the brooder in my shed and I found mold. I quickly got everyone out and moved them to my basement for the time being. This morning I woke to the duckling dead. I noticed a larger one having a hard time breathing and standing/walking. I'm worried that it could have affected it as well. If anyone knows someone I'd greatly appreciate the imput.

Thanks,
Joe

Hopefully someone on here can recommend a vet for your ducks! I know nothing about ducks, maybe one of the duck threads here on BYC can help til you find a vet.

Glad everyone made it through our wild and wooly Colorado weather this past week.... We had hard frost the last two night, hmmmm, guess summer is coming late at 8700'!

Is hard when the time comes to let our pets go, sorry for your loss Uzi.

I have 28 chicks in the brooder, mostly Bantam Cochins for my breeding pens, but a few Barnie/Marans crosses too, it is getting crowded! lol They are so funny to watch though.

Don't know about a vet but sounds like antibiotics is a must. Feed stores and pet places will carry antibiotics which can work if you know what kind to get and the dosage.

Good news! Ducklings got checked out by a Vet and they'll be ok. Some minor antibiotics for them

Very glad that they will be fine!

Is anyone here putting in an order for chicks in the month of June???  Looking to add a few purebreds to my laying flock.  TIA
I have been thinking about some meat birds. My family is finally ok with the eating of local chickens. It would be nice to raise them myself however. I am just trying to figure out which type.

Good morning everyone... so I had chosen to do the deep litter method in the run. I toss grass clippings, dead leaves, pine needles, weeds and the chickens dried poo from their coop. I'm finding it to be a very messy mistake. The chickens aren't turning it and mulching it like I expected so I did the other day and now there's flies everywhere. I wish i had done sand like I did in their coop. What do you guys think? Am I doing something wrong... is it good? Do they benefit from the decomposing yuck? Should I just shovel it out and have bare ground in their run?

DL in the run will never work because it needs to be dry. Shovel it all out, dump it in your compost pile and do bare dirt or sand in the run.
