Colorado

I have been so busy! My birthday was yesterday. My garden did ok the first hail last night, but the hail this morning pummeled the garden and decimated a lot of my hard work :(

Then the neighbor that hates my roosters and calls code enforcement went and weed wacked my un-ripened growing strawberry fruits in the rain in my side yard on purpose.

Guess who is putting up 1/2" hardware cloth around the perimeter of my property tomorrow? Have fun changing out the plastic strip on your weed wacker 20+ times every time you bring it out from now on, strawberry murderer. :)

Then 1 of the white bresse killed 3 of her chicks this morning within a 45 minutes period of time. So, they're in the brooder box now. She went back to general population :)

I need clones of me :) uzisuzuki- my bf said I can't get rid of my juvenile pullets. Talk about a chicken math enabler. I try to sell any birds and he talks me out of it.

DK - Happy B-Day! Sorry about the Breese momma. Sometimes these new hens just have no clue what is going on. One of my failed broodies from last year managed to become a mom this year after watching last year's chicks and Mamma, or at least I assume they can learn by watching......Maybe I am giving them too much credit and it is all just instincts and luck.
My meatie chicks arrived in the mail today and are doing great!
Good Luck with your fence and that Neighbor from HEDOUBLETOOTHPICKS !!!

My place in Westminster got hit worse the day before yesterday, with marble sized hail. None yesterday, but it did rain hard and for a long time. It was also one of the best electrical storms I've seen in Colorado in a long time.

It rained pretty good this morning too, but let up around 11 and its starting to get sunny now.

Just heard on the radio via the Emergency Broadcast System that Adams County, and Arapahoe county are under a tornado watch, guess this type of TS can produce funnel clouds! Yikes!

We had a short shower blow through, and I mean blow through hard, here one minute, gone the next!

Sun is back out, but LOTS of rain clouds all around us.

I still don't have my garden in, had to wait for the cold to pass, may still do some fast growing plants, not sure what exactly would grow for three months and be ready to harvest???

So far we are ok here in Loveland. Lots of hail ping pong ball sized and smaller yesterday.

DK,
Sorry I missed your Birthday. Happy belated Birthday.
Sounds like you have had another rough week. Glad you pulled the other chicks from the not so good mama.
I made a hoop coop sort of over my strawberries to keep the birds out. I used bird netting but I bet you could use chicken wire just as effectively. I love the strawberries fresh off the plant. Man I would be so mad about them being cut.
I cannot imagine what the heck they were thinking.

The hail did a lot of damage to my trees and of course all the flowers. My apple tree is the only one that got blooms on it this year and it was only like 3 blooms. Too cold too late in the season for them to get to flower properly.

Well back to the wheelbarrow.

Beets, turnips, cilantro, carrots, radishes, kale, collards, chard, snap peas, beans, started broccoli and cauliflower to name a few.
Potatoes too.....

No worries! I can try again later if y'all have some next year! :) And sorry about the neighbour. The renters with the serial killer in the making kids (they killed 2 cats by braining them with a pipe) suddenly moved out last weekend, so maybe there's hope for yours. I just don't understand not having enough to do in your life that you have to stir stuff up like your neighbour. /smh

So, today wasn't the greatest day. My parents had to euthanise my 16 year old Jack Russell. He hadn't been doing very well the past 2 years, but I still wasn't expecting this. I'm glad my mom didn't tell me what happened until I got home from work, but I wish I could have said a proper goodbye.

These 2 are developing pretty fast lately. I think they'll end up with more traits from the hens than I thought they would at the beginning. Memnoch is already almost the same size as Odysseus & he's developing the typical rooster tail feathers instead of the Sebright rooster tail feathers. I also noticed that they can flare/flatten their partial crests. I wasn't expecting that.

Hopefully these fast moving storms don't ruin too much for anyone tonight. I noticed almost the entire state is in a flood warning. Stay safe, everyone!

Uzi,
I am so sorry your doggie had to go. I do understand the aging thing with them and it is never easy to say goodbye.

I will always miss the ones that I have had to let go of. I am sure he will always hold a special place with you.

another hug for good measure.

The chicks are looking good. Growing well and still having that face that can always bring a smile. I did not know they would be able to stand their crests at will either. I bet that is a hoot.

May we all have some better weather today.

@uzisuzuki sorry about having to put your dog down, that is never easy regardless if expected or not!

@Double Kindness Happy Belated B-day!

@Percheron chick any chicks yet?
