Colorado

I have had good luck on CL too, just meet them at a busy location. I have sold several that way, sure there are the bottom feeders on there, but after a while you can pretty much notice them right away! lol

Wow, did we get some rain yesterday! Almost 31/2 inches in five hours! Had the thunder and lightning too, was a very slow moving cell, as I watched it move off to the southeast for almost an hour, you could hear the rain off in the distance too, just pouring.

Glad everyone has had luck selling their extra birds, helps with the feed bill for sure! I have sold a ton of hatching eggs on Ebay this year, is a new experience for me, there are some very nice people, and others very strange things happen to their shipped eggs! HA!

Those are blocked from even being able to bid on my ads, another nice feature!!! lol

Hope they get the alfalfa cut in our area, had to buy grass again....... the horses don't like grass as much!

I was out paying the usual bills and a stop at the feed store today and may have some interest in the chicks. One fellow that works at the feed store bought chicks from there and ended up with mostly roosters. (He bought sexed chicks and had 4 males out of 6 chicks) He lives quite close to us and may want some of the little gals I have. The other bill paying place the gal that works there knows someone looking for started pullets so I guess there is hope.

I found Jenny all plucked again this afternoon.

Poor girl was just getting her headdress back too.
I think if I end up keeping the polish they will have their own space inside the main coop. The bantams will just have to get along with the huge Brahmas.

Uzi,
I am sorry we missed each other on swap day. It mainly was not worth the trip because of putting the girls through the truck ride. I am fond of all my chickens and hated the thought of them being wind blown in the back. They were covered quite well so no one was damaged by the ordeal.
I am glad your littles are getting along ok with the parent birds.
It is a trip for you, that's for sure. Hopefully, you've already or will find a good buyer for them soon. I was a little worried about the babies continuing to peck at their moms' poofs or dad pulling more feathers out of his babies, but I guess there's enough space in a 5.5 acre backyard for them to not feel the need to hassle each other. I'm hoping to start getting the younger 3 girls outside with all of them soon since everyone is now outside full time. I need to start getting all 10 used to each other, but at the rate I'm going lately it'll be winter again before I get started!

@uzisuzuki glad "Meet The Parent's Day" went well for you, how fun and they look so big now!
They are big! I have to remind myself that they're not even 3 months old yet! Memnoch's actually as tall as Odysseus but not as filled out yet. He actually reminds me of Odysseus when he first showed up on my grandparents' front porch. Maybe my chippy rooster was a cockerel when he found me! :) I have to say, after seeing your adorable broody with her chicks, I *really* wish Calypso would go Full Broody and hatch some eggs. She just wants to hoard everyone's eggs in one place not actually sit on them.

Hi all,

I need to find homes for a couple of my brahma roosters (I know, I know)... and would love them to go to someone who likes the breed. I am working on breeding blue brahma, and have two young, very beautiful and nice cockerels (they love each other currently and live with three other adult roosters) that I am culling due to bleeding red on their wings. They would be super pretty roosters for someone...but not to breed. In Northern Colorado if you are interested. PM please.

I took the plunge Wednesday and ordered 35 meat birds. This should be interesting. I havr a place to keep theman extra waterer or two and a spare large feeder now. My wife would like to raise these guys organic but i havent been able to find an organic meat bird feed yet around here. Any ideas? They will enjoy some large run free ranging and will get some weeds and bugs that way so i hope that will help keep my costs down at least a little.

Ranch Way has organic meat bird feed. All our feed stores around here carry Ranch Way.
With that many birds you might want to order some feed from Feringer and have it delivered. http://www.fehringerfarms.com/organiclivestockfeed.html
You could store or sell extra.
Good luck with the meat birds, what kind did you get? .

Yay! Congrats!

Going to be a hot for several days, today started out really warm, not very common here at 8700 feet!

So what kind of treats do you put out to keep your chickens occupied in this heat? I am considering some frozen veggies.......

My flock just seems to park it under a shade tree for the day. I don't do anything special as long as they have shade. Heck, I wish I could hang in the shade. It is the sun that is brutal, not the temps, at least up here. And those freakin deer flies are out. Sunshine loving vampires!

Accuweather says its 84 here with a UV of 9... Feels a lot warmer than that especially when in the sun... Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter... near 100. Guess I better get any outdoor chores done today. Wish I had a pool. I'd be out soaking! Can't even go down to the So Platte river to cool off... It's still at flood stage and muddy brown.
