Woke up to this....one EE and two OE have hatched both from @Percheron chick. No other pips seen.

COChix, blessings on your new chicks

I've got whatever it is that everyone else has, and things are piling up - like all the evergreen (Juniper) limbs that need trimming. And like you, LS, I have a bum shoulder. Sorry about your trip to ER. I hope you are recovering!

One of the two chicks that hatched at Unihill died this AM. No clue, was 25 days old and apparently healthy.

My lame rooster went to a vet in Loveland, is on the last of amoxicillin and meloxicam, and is hobbling about with a great deal more confidence now. Will probably let him run up a few more vet bills before I eat him.

I've got roosters with large single combs, and they all get frostbite, no matter what their housing situation. I agree with LS, air in at the bottom, out at the top, creates nice flow of air. Find the condensation areas and get rid of it. Keep your roosts out of the condensate drip line. Dogloos make good shelters for Roos, IME. Rocket scientists have probably got this all figured out but I'm still working on it.

My fish net is working well: I net and pin down the aggressive Roos, and after they're pinned, my dog Abbie pounces on them and gives them a fright. When I let them up, she chases them all over some more, their due for attacking and trying to spur her. I am hoping she can transfer this skill to other aggressive Roos (hens NOT).

It is surely a beautiful day, isn't it?!i

Congrats on the hatchlings CoChix!

LS, I hope the shoulder is doing better and you are over the cough.

coop410silkies, I hope you get over the crud fast. No fun getting sick when the weather is nice.

Welcome new chicken owners and soon to be owners!

Hope everyone got a chance to get outside and enjoy today's beautiful (still a little cool... at least at 70 MPH on a Harley

) weather! Man it was nice to get the bike out on the open road again!

Tomorrow is supposed to be another fantastic 70 degree day with lots of sun! Might have to put chores off again and go for another bike ride

I'm not completely over the crud yet, but feeling a lot better, thanks! I hope y'all don't get it, and if you do, wishing you a fast recuperation! I'm at a week's plus time now, still fighting it.

Actually managed to get ~7 hours of straight through sleep this morning... started around 4:30 and went till almost noon. No matter! I'll take it! Being completely worn out and unable to sleep has to be one of the worst feelings I've ever had to deal with. I used to be able to sleep anywhere, any time, and go without for days at a time... no more. I miss being able to sleep (well).

The doc put me on a 6 day regimen of a prednisone derivative of some sort (steroids) for the shoulder and it worked wonders. Well, the meds and 2 days straight icing it while recliner bound wathcing the TV and dozing off & on... Tweaked it again a little today, but still usable.

Has anyone put in their order for that new chicken feed that gives specific color egg shells yet?

I was particularly interested in that one consisting of red herring...

Thanks for asking, @21hens-incharge! She's starting to look better & I did end up getting most of the damage fixed. It's been difficult to try to get things done since work has been getting worse with my harassing coworker & this sinus infection I can't get rid of. Just too flipping tired lately. :) I've got 4 eggs on day 8 & 3 eggs on day 1 of incubation (3 of the shipped eggs were duds, but they gave me 2 extra). Hopefully, I can get at least 2 to hatch again this year.

It's nice to see everyone's new chicks!

So you had the crud too?

I was on antibiotics for 5 days and a steroid inhailer... I'm still hacking crud.

Yeah. Thought I had dislocated my shoulder and gave in/went to the ER Easter night ~ midnight. Turned out to be a pulled/torn muscle instead. The doc put me on the steroids for that, & anti-biotics for the crud. (Of course the antibiotics were worthless really as it was/is a viral infection, but made the doc feel better prescribing something I guess). Another doc couple days later put me on an inhaler, also for the crud. I'm not over it yet, but am feeling much better. It's finally letting up some. Hope yours clears soon as well.
