Colorado

BlkForestChick there are quite a few sources in your area. Check out craigslist (Denver) and search Ameraucana. Not sure if you'll find that many that are older. I have a nice black Ameraucana hen and a Blue Ameraucana rooster that were born on Black Friday 2016....not quite 4 months old. I'd let them go for $25 (for both). I live in Evergreen, but could meet up. PM me if interested. The rooster is very quiet, haven't heard him crow.

Hi guys!
Well, I haven't been on in...forever. I hope everyone is doing well, and having great chicken luck.
Our Mereks issues haven't kept us from keeping chickens. We have learned though, that our chicks must be vaccinated, especially if we're doing one of the imports, like Swedish flower hens, or Cream legbars. But, I just can't bring myself to spend the money on them again, so we have stuck with traditional breeds. We had a nice little flock of Faverolles, even though they ended up not quite working for us, we had fun and didn't lose even one to Mereks. After about six months of no chickens, we've ordered more, and they'll be here tomorrow. Cinnamon queens, speckled Sussex and EEs from Cackle. I miss chickens running around our yard, one of the problems with the Favs was they never left the barn, so I picked foragers this time around.
We'll see how it goes :) I miss free range eggs! Sad yellow yolks are terrible, and I'm looking forward to our own eggs again.

Welcome to the Colorado thread @Wildnsweet . Are you looking for a breeder specifically or are you okay with hatchery sourced? If hatchery stock is okay with you, Kiowa Country Corner with have White Jerseys on April 1st and Black Jerseys on April 29th. That's where I got my first chicken chicks, though not those breeds. You can call them ahead of time to reserve the number of chicks you want. http://www.elizabethcountrycorner.com//index.cfm?Page=docs/Chicks and More!

You crack me up. Did you pick an incubator? I have the GQF 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator and the optional egg turner. I was happy with mine when I did the quail hatches but I didn't have much luck on my first chicken hatch. But I don't think it was the incubator as much as other factors. The temperature holds steady once you get it set right (though you'll need another thermometer to make sure it's accurate) and the humidity readings are accurate. Anyway, I am defiantly going to try to hatch some more later. Right now I'll be close to my coop's space limit so I don't want to add any more. I'm hoping to move to where I'm not limited on the number or type of animals I can keep.

Haven't yet. That's my job this weekend. Supposedly need higher and more closely regulated humidity with geese. She laid 2 eggs last night and was acting like she still needed to lay another this morning. 3 in one day! No wonder she's been such a snake.

Welcome Wildnsweet! Hey there Ash!
I also have a Genesis 1588. It seems to have been just fine so far with chicken and quail eggs.
I bet the geese experts would have the best info. Three eggs in one day? I wonder if the first one is already starting to rock and roll or if they really do have that many in the production line....
That would be a whole lot of eggs in a minimum time if you wanted a lot of babies to hatch close together with less nest time..... interesting.....

I have to share the latest additions to the flock...

The Bitty mama was making the others nutty and needed a few babies....

Here she is with her blue cochin LF chicks (2 of them), a red cochin LF and a very special Barnevelder baby.

I think she had one of the blues under her. Such a sweet little cochin.
