What do you do to deter the coyotes? Just really secure coops and runs?

I have a motion sensor light on both side of the house. I don't know if it deters them, but it alerts me if something is really really close. One run we dug the fence into the ground, the other run I made a skirt that lays flat, I don't know what's actually better. They are also fenced (welded wire) on top so nothing can jump/climb in. I also try and lock the birds in their coops/houses at night, not just their runs. I don't know if there's anything else to do. When I see them in the day I yell at them or honk my horn at them. Sometimes I fill in their holes out in the field, I like to think they will think it's no longer a safe place to hang around, but I don't know if any of this does anything!

Hey Chicken, welcome. I am pretty sure this is the main CO thread on here, but there is some CO chicken facebook site that I have heard of. I am not on FB, so that is all of the info that I can give you. Have a great week!

Hey ChickenRelatedUserName (your name still makes me laugh ) welcome to the Colorado thread. Yes, I think every state just has one big long thread, though people may start new ones now and than. I don't think there are enough people participating in the state threads to justify starting more specific threads, at least not for CO. This thread would be difficult to read through for sure but it's easy enough to just join in.

I'm getting ready for my new bucklings. I'm driving down to NM on Friday to pick them up. :weeThe older chickens and ducks are starting to get over the attack. They had been staying very close to the coop but are slowing venturing further and further. I need to get the ducklings to start going outside. They have gotten huge and I'd like them to get out in the sun. They are as big as the adult chickens. Here they are by their sled that I just filled with fresh water. (Please excuse the state of the coop floor. I'm about to shovel it all out into the garden so haven't added any fresh bedding in a while.)

I give mine a sled full of water too sometimes! haha. cheap and easy and easy for them to climb in and out. Send them all outside! They are certainly big enough!

Yeah I was looking around for something with low sides and found it in the shed. It was perfect.

I hope to lure them out the pop door with mealworms. They learned very quickly to come when they hear me shake the worms in a plastic container. But when I tried the first time only one came to the door (others were scared) so I put one of the water buckets right in front of the door. My hope is to get them used to the where the door is. Maybe I'll slowly move the bucket outside. I wish they would just learn from the older birds; it would be so much easier.

I'm no stranger to the internet, but I am to this particular web forum set-up. I can't seem to find a way to access a list of active members. I have a friend whom I know is on here, but can't search for him. Can I just send a message and it will autofill his name when I start typing his user name? Basically, how do you find someone on here?
