That's a bummer though. I don't think they're that noisy. We're up in the foothills and with proper fencing have had minimal problems with predators. I have more of a problem with bears in the trash than coyotes and fox.

Same ole story, too noisy, too smelly, attracts preadators.

You wonder if the people making these laws have EVER been around a live chicken?

Probably not. My dog's poo smells 100 times worse than my chickens. At least you can compost chicken poo. My chickens serve a purpose, they produce food. My dogs lay around all day. Chickens can get a little noisy, but not like my dogs when they see nothing yet bark anyway. I could go on and on about this.

Sonja, I am with you. I have had more noise and smell issues with dog owners than my ducks could ever create on a bad day.

My chickens on the other hand are perfectly contained and well behaved. Sometimes they hoot and holler, but overall they're very low maintenance compared to my dogs!!

I have four Cuckoo hens. They are hatchery stock and don't lay particularly dark colored eggs. They are really nice birds however. Last summer one of my hens raised 9 chicks and she was a great mom. This year so far she hasn't tried to set at all.

I have black copper and blue copper Marans you can see them under hatching eggs for sale.

I can hatch chicks also.
