Josh, I'm so sorry you had such a negative experience. I certainly wouldn't want to deal with anyone like that either. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Ideal Hatchery. There was also a lady on craigslist out in Falcon who was selling chicks not too long ago. Check on craigslist!! I always see listings for chicks on there... and with them being in smaller communities and smaller hatches, I would think the chicks would be well taken care of before you get them. Check it out. Also, I'm new myself, but you are welcome to come check out my coop and run. They are no where near the BEST out there, and I'm still learning myself, but I know how it feels to need to see things with your own eyes to learn.

Just pm me if you want to stop by. We are ARMY too

The chickens I haven't gotten from Aimee have come from Ideal. I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I've just decided to go with birds from better breeders and not hatchery birds. Go army!! My dh was injured in Bosnia while in the army. We have a special place in our hearts for them.

Small world! I started reading this thread and the third post on the first page has a link to an article from the Gazette...and in that article they interview John & Louise, the people who are selling me my first pullets! My avatar picture was taken at their house with one of my future chickens.

So cool! Thank you for posting that link!

I am putting a word out to all those living within the city of Colorado Springs. I was contacted today by a man writing an article for the Independent on backyard chickens and he is looking for a few others to interview. If anyone is interested PM me and I can pass on your info. Thanks!

Hello fellow Colorado Springs residents!

This will be my first winter in the Springs, and with chickens. I have no idea what to expect so if any of you can shoot my some tips regarding watering, feeding, sheltering, etc. I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you!!

I am not in the city limits, but if he needs cute duck photos, have him email me

Frozen water bowls are a regular issue. I am thinking of getting a heated dog water bowl before the snow flies. Last winter I broke a couple of frozen buckets trying to get the ice slab out

We got some of those little blue buckets (guess they hold a little more than a gallon of water) that have the heaters built into the bottom...... They worked out very well for the cats so we'll probably use them with the geese and turkeys this winter.
