Colorado

Hi Folks,
frow.gif

Introducing myself for the first time here. I live in the HR area, and finally (after years of saying "we'll get them next year" - Ha!) got 4 little fuzz balls this past weekend. I'm so excited to finally be walking the walk. Like I said, we've talked about this for many years. I guess, researching ourselves into oblivion. "Analysis Paralysis"??? LOL! So far, it's been a lot of fun to watch these little cuties!

We currently have 1 austrolorp, 1 plymouth barred rock, 1 silver lakenvelder, and 1 aracauna (looks more americauna?). Hoping to pick up a couple of marans this weekend if I can get in before they're gone. In our neighborhood we can have 4 hens, no roosters. As I'm counting - if I can get the Marans - that will add up to 6. LOL I keep reading about something called "chicken math". Haha! 3 of the chicks came from pullet bins, and 1 is from a straight run. I'm obviously hoping for hens, but you know - preparing for "just in case". Hehe.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Sbusy, yep what cdoodledoo said "good luck with that chicken math" Most of us if not all have failed that class

I'm actually surprised that HR will even let you have hens. But glad they do

OP here.... Yes, Highlands Ranch.

And this is fairly new - the HRCA approving having hens. Last year I looked for something written to no avail, and this year there has been a lot of chatter about it. There was even an article in the Highlands Ranch paper about having backyard chickens! Yay! Even last year I knew of some folks here who had chickens, but mostly on the down low.

We're taking advantage of the good press that they've gotten recently and jumping in with both feet!

We moved here a year and a half ago. Prior to moving, we were trying to figure out if we could have a few hens in our old "unincoporated jeffco" neighborhood. The answer there was no, until about 4 months after we moved into this neighborhood. Now our old neighborhood allows them. That figures! LOL I knew that Highlands Ranch would be a hard sell, but we had to move here for the house (based on having so many kids and a grandmother with mobility issues).... so I hoped and prayed.

And now here we are!

Yay! Now, let's just hope the neighbors think they are as wonderful as I do!

Simply where at in Unincorp Jeffco did you live? We were over off of 52nd and Eldridge in Arvada and I had chickens, geese, and ducks. Never heard of not being able to have them there.

I am looking to start my own flock and was wondering if there were any breeders located in NE Colorado? I think I would prefer to pickup rather than order through a hatchery.

Thanks!
