Colorado

Hi there, I will be in touch. Would like to know what you have available. I was so pleased with the Black Orps I bought from you and thrilled with all the Lavender chicks 7 in total. Some of my Sussex hatched out Coronation so I am quite spoiled for Lavender at the moment.

Welcome to chicken ownership! Hope your little fellows are doing well. I can tell from meeting you that they will have a great home! This is only the beginning, please post pics as they grow so we can see their progress.

I've got a friend in Arvada that's interested in getting some layers. Does anyone near Denver have any good, winter-hardy layers that are several months old they'd be willing to part with?

She asked, "is it too late in the year to get chickens?" Ha! Its always a good time, I told her!

Thanks,

I get my Chicks from Golden Mills in Golden CO on Ford Street ,they have beautiful birds and you can pick up what you need there to .He and his staff can answer any questions may have.

I use purina grow from my local store here in Parker. I haven't read and researched enough yet re: feeds. My peeps are a month old, give or take a few days, so I'm not too worried about the next step just yet.

Is anyone else digging the moisture we're getting here the past few days? Funny, though... I miss the sun. LOL My peeps are in their coop in the garage-- not very warm-- and with the recent weather, they don't seem all that happy. I think it's mostly because they want to go foraging.

I make my own feed with a variety of things and get everything I need to do that at the co-op in Fowler. I don't know if it would be considered organic though? The price of crumbles and scratch at our local Big R is not much cheaper than what you can get it at the feed store for and the Big R stuff is dirty. Has a lot of junk in it compared to the other. That's why I prefer to mix my own because then I know what exactly they are eating!!!!

It is top secret!!! If I told you I would have to kill you!! Haha just kidding!

I use equal amounts of these ingredients mixed together:

Rolled oats
Rolled corn
Rolled milo
Soybean meal
Layer crumbles

I got this from an old farmer friend of the family who has been raising and selling chickens for over 50 years. This is what he feeds his and I have never seen a bad looking chicken at his place ever! My chickens love it and their eggs are very good!! I also feed them fresh veggies, hay and sometimes throw some of the rabbits alfalfa pellets in there too.

I used to feed them just crumbles and the first time I fed them this you would have thought I threw a steak to a bunch of lions. They attacked that feeder! I even use it in place of the scratch I use to throw out for them!!

The co-op in Fowler is the cheapest place I have found the stuff. They come in 50lb bags and I just go and stock up. The feed store here sells the stuff but for a considerably higher price so it's worth the drive. That might be too much of a drive for you but you should have a co-op somewhere close to your area.
