I thought the pine shavings were bad for chickens. Am I wrong? I know pine smells wonderful and have read a few responses where its used.

On another note: I have a 10 month old speckled sussex rooster that I'd love to find a good home for. He has a beautiful crow. I just have too many roosters and he likes to run the show too much in regards to the others. I'm not too far from the Springs.

Hi Everyone- I need some help figuring out if chickens are allowed in the towns of Bennett, Strasburg, or Byers. They are smaller towns and I'm having trouble finding the info. online. We are looking for a home on acreage in that area but are having a hard time finding anything so we are now considering finding something in town with a smaller lot. I appreciate your help.

This was the flock three days ago. They are now getting along fine. Switched to paper towels. They are getting older now and they try to peel back the paper towels and get at the shavings. I am not sure what the fascination is with that, but we have started pushing the edges down and underneath things to keep them from peeling the paper back. We are getting one more chick which will be in Wednesday...black astralorp.

Here they are today. They are all doing great. Catherine of Aragon is the largest one and Anne of Cleves the smallest is our Buff Orpington. Looking forward to getting our baby black astralorp on Wednesday.

Would it be possible to move your cuties outside?  At almost a month, I would think they would be OK living outdoors in a secure duck house and pen with the heat still available for them if they need it.  Your little one will  be fascinated by them in just a very short time.

It is but everytime I clean their brooder or touch them I have a reaction that seems to be getting worse with time. Wouldn't cleaning their coop be the same and checking their feet etc for cuts or what not?

I cannot believe I actually have to post this but, I am allergic to my ducks! I would just take some benedryle and 'deal' with it, but Im pregnant and that is dangerous to do. So I have to find my baby girls a new home They are 26 days old, both female, Rachel is a chocolate Indian Runner & Phoebe is a fawn/white Indian Runner, they have been handled and indoors since they first arrived here. I will include their feed, bowls, heat lamp, vitamins, & diapers (they have the baby set and fit into the largest size). It is killing me just writing this but I cannot have my allergies this bad while I am pregnant. I want them in a very good home. Anyone interested please message me. I live in Colorado Springs and can drive 30 minutes any direction or you can pick them up here.

I'm sorry that you have to get rid of your sweeties.

Well, if it helps at all, your increased allergic reaction is only for while you are pregnant, not a permanent thing. Can you bribe, with cookies or something, some nice helpful person to give you a hand? The babies will get their feathers and lose all of their down, which will help a lot and then eyeballing them and wearing gloves or the bribing thing should get you through unless you were not planning on taking them with you to Maine. A nice long rake will clean an outdoor area. Just throwing things out there for you...

Buy a pack of surgical rubber gloves to wear while handling them. Might help if the reaction is just during the pregnancy. I don't think you would want to do it permanently. LOL
