THANKS FOR THE WELCOME! I WAS WONDERING WHAT YOU ALL THINK IS A GOOD ALL AROUND BIRD. I AM LOOKING AT THE SUSSEX RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I HEAR THEY ARE MORE FRIENDLY QUIET AND GOOD PRODUCERS. I SEEM TO HAVE A TOUGH TIME FINDING SUSSEX PULLETS THOUGH.

Any western slopers looking for a reliable broody? I've got a BO that is broody all the time! I have no rooster, so she is just wasting her time. Would love for her to hatch some eggs for someone....

and to the CO thread...you'll love everyone here, I've learned so much and hope, someday at a swap or two to meet some too!

We just got some sussex gals, they are little, I wish I had a few more to share with you, but I only tried a couple of them this year.

I do know that Murdoch's in Longmont was carrying them, so they might be another place to try for some chicks. I think there is one down there. Have you tried them?

My red star is a very reliable producer and lays x-large to jumbo eggs! She is also a real sweetheart. :) My black australorp is also a great layer however her eggs are smaller. I love love love my EE. She lays blue/green eggs and is soooo pretty to look at! She is afraid of her own shadow, though. LOL

Joe, what did you use for a heat source, fan and thermastat? I am making one but big and I am stumped.

WOW!!!! Just looked at the site. The only place I have close is ....Big R...and it is mostly straight runs!!! I can do that at home!!! I will be putting some more of my Leghorns in the cooler-bator around the 7th of April!!!

Joe, I am also in Colorado Springs, and I have gotten all my chicks this year from Elizabeth and Kiowa. In fact I am due to pick up my last chicks in Elizabeth on 4/6. If you just don't want to make the drive, You could call and try to get some reserved at either Elizabeth or Kiowa. Both stores are easily accessible once you get up there. I would be glad to pick them up for you when I go to get mine. Well within reason, you might have to provide a carrier if you are getting a lot.

PM me if this is something you think would work for you.
