Walmart deli sections will usually give away all you would want.

It is a sometimes well known secret- so you may have to go in
and ask frequently. These are the ones that normally hold the icing and
such for cakes so they are food grade. They arent quite 5 gal , it is more like 4.
It sure beats paying for them.....

I was getting buckets at work since I work in a prison Kitchen,
where we got buckets that held peanut butter, salad dressing
and pickles. I guess you could also think outside the box,
maybe if you live near a college campus, even maybe Sonic, Dairy Queen,
Micky D, or BK..... I used to ask at DQ, & they gave some for my honey gathering
until they decided to recycle them.

Good Luck!!!!

Does anyone know where I can get some 5 gal buckets with lid...gratis? hate to pay $7 at ace or HD... I figure I'll need 3-4 to hold a #50 bag of feed.

FYI, One 5 gallon bucket holds about 25# of feed for me. I suspect the ratio would be similar for you. You may not need as many as you think! I have found that I prefer the plastic containers like from Walmart (like what the chicks are in but much smaller) because the lids are easier to remove. The feed I get is loose, doesn't come in bags so I always use 5 gallon buckets or containers. I truly love the feed I get from High Altitude Organics. I bought store bought feed once because I ran out and hated it so much (mostly corn, smelled awful, looked awful)! I will never let myself run out again! Of course, the chickens didn't care. Food is food! LOL

Good info Thanks... I also saw a 20gal galvanized trash can with a locking lid at Ace for $21... it's sooo shiny ... I'm tempted ;)

Anyone just get hit with four or five inches of hail? It came down so hard and so fast I thought I would be picking up dead chickens. They were all over free ranging. Just let up and found them all and they are so pathetic:(. And my garden which looked so good this year shredded. My corn was chest high with tassels . Now it is flat. I dont think I have ever seen it come down that hard, it wasn't big but it was coming from every direction. I am a native and have seen are storms before but just not so hard. Hope you all are ok.

We got hit with Rain...huge dropplets of rain....like buckets.

So I found a source for buying supper worms in bulk online. 1000 worms that from what I might have read on this forum don't turn in to beetles and free shipping, an for $34. I have read if you make the bedding oatmeal ($20.54 for 10lb) that will be a food source for them. If you buy from the pet store for $6 then in the end you will pay $250 for if you are extremely lucky 1000 live worms.
