DH doesn't help me care for them at all or care how many we have. I just use him for heavy lifting when needed (coop/run moving when we got it and later when doing a big clean). If i want more and have room for them I'll buy them.

I might be going to the swap this Saturday... in Pueblo West...then Penrose...I only have a couple I want to relocate.....I'm thinking of letting "Flash" go! Him and Kellog. Kellog is a beautiful little white w/black spots and stripes. He is a good roo...but I have still got too many!!

Minchi- I recommend, hard as it is, to wait two or three weeks, then ask again. I don't think I have ever seen a thread get that divided on a gender question.

I swear I unconsciously went to the store to get them and looked for the most difficult to tell. I know I worry but the later I find out the worse it seams there fate is, mainly because I will have less time to find them a home.

At the Masonic Lodge in Colorado Springs this weekend, they have a monthly flea/yard sale. People go and sell all sorts of things. I usually sell extra eggs and always sell out of my 10 or so cartons. Our youth group rents to sellers for $10 and use that money to help defray the costs of their trips. The young men take care of the logistics like collecting money, answering questions, etc.

I think it would be cool to do a chicken swap there. So I asked since we don't really have anything that close here. So if anyone would like to show up on Saturday around 9ish with chickens, we'd love to see you. I'm putting it up in Craigslist and will drop off signs to the places around me advertising it. It's short notice so no idea if it'll work or not but perhaps next month, there will be more time.

PM me and I'll give you my phone number.

I like the idea...But keep in mind that it will be on the same day as the Pueblo West/ Penrose swap! Those two last all day..together. With me.....doesn't matter, Penrose and Colorado Springs is about the same drive!

Speaking of my conure, Maggie....

.... I went to my bathroom, turned the hot shower on, brought the hovabator in there and took the little egg out and carefully, over the course of about 3 hours, took small pieces of shell off where the air bubble usually is and at the natural pip line,  wrapped it in paper towel unti I was confident enough that the little chick had absorbed enough.  Then I just watched it.   When it made its attempt to come out that last time, I just had to wet some yuck down and carefully take it off with tweezers.

Aww Maggie sounds cute. I have a conure too....she is a nanday conure and boy is she LOUD!! What kind of conure is Maggie?

Your story about helping the second chick out of the egg reminds me of when I hatched chicks this spring with my first grade class......
The kids kept telling me one of the eggs was chirping, so I went to investigate and sure enough the little guy was trying really hard to get out (the others were already out and drying under the heat lamp). So my assistant and I did our best to take a little off at a time and a few hours later "Stucky" was hatched! The kids named him that bc he was 'stuck' lol ;) it seemed that it was just in a strange position and couldn't peck out! The foot was covering it's face sorta. I'd never hatched chicks before so it was quite an experience! And I never knew that you can hear them peeping in the eggs!!! And that a mama hen can chirp to her chicks when they are getting ready to hatch if they're under her. It is so sweet!
